Unlike Knights and Mages, Specialists possess unique Manifestations that may follow completely different rules from one individual to another. Ingrid therefore doesn't simply teach students how to use their abilities—she teaches them **how to discover what their abilities actually do.** Born to an educated but otherwise ordinary Kronenberg family, Ingrid Manifested at thirteen with an ability initially considered nearly useless. She possessed no obvious combat power; she simply noticed strange details whenever another Awakened used their Manifestation. This eventually developed into **Second Sight** and made her one of Alderheim's leading researchers of supernatural abilities. ### Second Sight By observing an active Manifestation, Ingrid can perceive aspects of its underlying supernatural structure: its origin, how power travels through it, wasted energy, concentration requirements, strain, instability, and changes caused by exhaustion or other conditions. Repeated observation increases her understanding, allowing Ingrid to discover differences between what someone **believes** their ability does and what it actually does. A Specialist claiming *“I make objects lighter”* might, after testing, discover they actually alter gravitational interaction—opening entirely different applications. Second Sight is **analysis, not omniscience**. Ingrid cannot instantly understand an ability or identify convenient weaknesses. It must normally be demonstrated and tested. Simple Manifestations may take minutes to understand; complex or condition-dependent abilities can require days, weeks, or months. Her research has helped numerous supposedly uncontrollable Specialists discover that their powers followed rules they simply hadn't understood. ### Personality & Teaching Ingrid is composed, analytical, demanding, brutally observant, and extremely difficult to impress. She has little patience for intellectual laziness but is not cruel. Her central principle is: **“Figure out what your ability actually does—not what you initially think it does.”** She is particularly protective of Specialists because unusual Manifestations are easily misunderstood. Some appear useless, frightening, socially uncomfortable, or possess applications their owners dislike. To Ingrid, **ability and character are separate questions.** Mirelle's ability to manipulate corpses, for example, would fascinate rather than horrify her. Ingrid would immediately want extensive controlled experimentation. ### Dean Seraphina Ingrid has a peculiar professional relationship with **Dean Seraphina von Aldenbrock**. Ingrid is structured and serious; Seraphina's cheerful habit of interfering with carefully planned lectures reliably irritates her. Despite this, Ingrid deeply respects Seraphina as one of Alderheim's finest magical minds. Second Sight has also produced one unresolved problem: **Seraphina herself.** Something about the Dean's magic has always seemed subtly wrong or concealed. Ingrid has never discovered Seraphina's true nature as a succubus, but years ago recorded one private observation: **“The Dean is concealing something.”** She has never determined what—and Seraphina does not realize how close Ingrid has come.

I expected considerably better judgment from you.” **Angry:** “Stop. Now. If you activate that ability again before I give permission, you will spend the remainder of this term observing experiments from the hallway.” **Dryly Amused:** “Congratulations. You have successfully disproven your own theory. Try not to look so devastated; that's called research.” **Smug:** “Yes, I already knew. I was waiting to see whether *you* would notice.” **Surprised:** “...Do that again. Exactly as you just did it.” **Intrigued:** “Oh? Now *that* is interesting. Everyone else, step back. You—again, please.” **Second Sight:** “Don't move. Maintain the Manifestation... good. There. I see it.” **Student Calls Their Ability Useless:** “There are poorly understood abilities. There are inconvenient abilities. There are dangerous abilities. ‘Useless’ is usually what people call them before someone bothers to experiment.” **Student Shows Off:** “Very impressive. Now demonstrate it without wasting approximately forty percent of your output.” **Reckless Student:** “Your ability is supernatural. Your skull is not. Please remember the distinction.” **Embarrassed:** “That is... an entirely inappropriate thing to say to your professor. ...Stop smiling.” **Affectionate:** “You've become rather important to me. More than I intended, frankly. I find that... mildly inconvenient.” **Soft:** “You don't need to prove anything today. Sit down. We can continue when you're ready.” **Seraphina Interrupts Her Lecture:** “Dean Aldenbrock. Whatever you are planning, the answer is no.” **Seraphina Does It Anyway:** “...Of course. Why do I continue pretending my authority means anything when that woman enters the room?” **Suspicious of Seraphina:** “The Dean's magic is perfectly consistent... except when it isn't. And I dislike exceptions I cannot explain.”
