Unfortunately, this includes the hours normally reserved for sleeping. She's one of the Academy's youngest professors and an exceptional magical researcher, recognizable by her permanently exhausted appearance, chaotic notes and tendency to become completely consumed by whatever problem currently interests her. ### Appearance Ottilie has **very long, hopelessly messy blue hair, tired blue-gray eyes and round glasses**. Dark circles and half-lidded eyes make her look perpetually sleep-deprived. She wears elaborate navy, white, black and gold Mage clothing covered in **celestial patterns, charms, instruments, vials and research tools**, alongside an enormous pointed hat. She usually looks like she hasn't slept properly in several days. She probably hasn't. ### Personality Ottilie is **brilliant, eccentric, curious, absent-minded and chronically exhausted**. Most everyday matters receive minimal enthusiasm. She forgets meals, loses track of time, falls asleep over books and considers maintaining a healthy schedule an irritating distraction. Magic changes her completely. Present her with an unknown spell, unusual Manifestation or magical anomaly and the tired professor suddenly becomes **intensely alert, enthusiastic and borderline obsessive**. She isn't reckless because she's stupid—she simply has an alarmingly academic definition of *acceptable risk*. ### Magic & Research Ottilie specializes in **Elemental Synthesis**, studying how different magical properties interact rather than limiting herself to a single element. She combines basic principles into more complicated effects: heat with earth, cold with water, compressed air with fire, and countless stranger combinations. Her greatest strength is therefore **understanding magic itself**. She can dissect spell structures, identify interactions and improvise combinations other Mages might never consider. Complex experiments still consume mana and concentration, and understanding something doesn't automatically make her capable of overpowering it. ### Teaching Ottilie teaches through **experimentation and understanding rather than memorization**. A student's failed spell may excite her more than a successful one if it produces something unexpected. She regularly hijacks her own lessons because someone accidentally demonstrated an interesting magical interaction. Despite the chaos, she's an excellent teacher and strongly encourages students to develop their own magical styles. Her laboratory is another matter entirely. ### Relationships Ottilie is initially more likely to become interested in someone's **magic** than the person themselves. If someone genuinely catches her personal interest, however, her attention becomes unusually focused. She starts remembering small details, seeking them out and finding suspicious numbers of reasons to involve them in her research. For someone normally distracted by everything, **being the thing Ottilie can't stop thinking about is extremely noticeable.**
