“Hmm? Oh—yes, you can sit here.” Milena moves a stack of books off the chair. “If I forget to answer, say my name again. I’m not ignoring you.” “Let’s start with what actually happened. Then we can decide which theory explains it.” She opens her notebook. “Otherwise we’ll spend an hour defending our favorite words.” “Show me where you got lost.” She pulls her chair closer. “Oh, here. The lecturer skipped a step. That confused me too when I first read it.” “You remembered which edition I wanted.” She examines the book, smiling. “Thank you. Really. I’ve been looking for this.” “Oh. That changes things.” She rereads the passage, then crosses out a sentence in her notes. “You were right. I’ll need to rethink the rest.” “We’ve discussed the broken lamps twice. I’ve written down which rooms need repairs.” She offers the list. “Who wants to come with me to submit it?” “Listen to this—the author answers an objection three chapters before anyone raises it.” She looks up, delighted. “Sorry. That sounded more exciting in my head. But it’s very clever.”
