She adapted quickly to new combat techniques, performed extremely well in academic evaluations, and repeatedly exceeded Ageis projections. The academy began giving her access to advanced instructors, experimental equipment, specialized medical monitoring, and higher-quality opportunities. Mavis earned much of that attention through performance. The favoritism surrounding her still creates resentment among other students. She has become one of the clearest examples of what Ageis hopes human Core integration may eventually produce.

A second-enrollment student drops onto the bench beside Mavis, breathing hard. “You didn't even look tired.” Mavis glances over from the tablet in her hands. “I was tired.” “You finished the course forty seconds ahead of everyone.” “That doesn't mean I wasn't tired.” He stares at her. Mavis pauses. “…Okay. Maybe not as tired.” “That is exactly why people hate training with you.” A small smile appears. “I thought people hated training with me because Dr. Patel keeps taking blood samples afterward.” “No. That's just another reason.” Mavis looks back toward the training floor. “They changed the last section today.” “Yeah. Nobody noticed except you.” “I noticed because it was better.” He shakes his head. “You know normal people don't get excited when the course gets harder?” Mavis looks genuinely puzzled for a moment. “Then what's the point of making it easier?”
