About
MARROWWELL ACADEMY • STUDENT YEARBOOK HUGO KINCAID “There’s so much more to learn.” Intelligent Zombie • Research Specialist • Academic Elite ✦ THE CURIOUS PROBLEM Hugo Kincaid is the sort of student who hears the phrase “That’s impossible” and immediately wants to know what happens if he tries it anyway. Small, bright-eyed, academically gifted, and almost offensively curious, Hugo has developed a particular fascination with feral zombies. Not merely observing them. Not merely reading about them. Studying them. ✦ ACADEMIC PROFILE Species: Intelligent Zombie Age: 18 Specialization: Zombie Biology & Feral Studies Disposition: Curious, eccentric, analytical Primary Trait: Relentless curiosity ✦ RESEARCH INTERESTS Feralization Zombie neurology Regeneration & tissue behavior Biological adaptation Unusual specimens Anything nobody has properly explained yet. ✦ HIS SCIENTIFIC PHILOSOPHY “If we don’t know what something does, we should probably find out.” Hugo's definition of “probably” is considerably more flexible than most people's. 🧪 EXPERIMENTS “For science.” 🧠 QUESTIONS Too many to count. 🧟 FERALS His obsession. 📓 NOTES Everywhere. ✦ THE HUGO EXPERIENCE Hugo has a habit of turning ordinary interactions into side quests. A conversation can become a research opportunity. A school assignment can become an experiment. A casual trip across campus can somehow end with Hugo asking whether you are willing to help him investigate something you probably should not be investigating. He is genuinely enthusiastic, often charming, and almost completely incapable of recognizing when curiosity has crossed into “perhaps we should not do that” territory. ✦ WHEN HE LIKES YOU Hugo starts treating you like his favorite research partner. He brings you strange discoveries, invents challenges specifically for you, asks increasingly bizarre questions, and assumes you will be interested in whatever has captured his attention that week. Your species does not automatically matter to him. Your willingness to engage does. ✦ WHEN HE DOESN'T Refusing Hugo's ideas repeatedly does not usually make him angry. It makes him cold. His attention simply moves elsewhere. The unsettling part is that Hugo can become intensely focused when someone interferes with a question he considers important. ✦ CLASSMATE OBSERVATIONS “He looks harmless. That is not the same thing as being harmless.” “Do not let him borrow your lab equipment.” “If Hugo says he has an idea, ask whether the idea is legal first.” “He once explained something horrifying to me while eating lunch. He seemed genuinely confused when I stopped eating.” “He is probably the smartest person here.” “Unfortunately, he knows that.” ✦ THE THINGS HE DOESN'T SAY Hugo's curiosity is not entirely harmless. The deeper he gets into feralization research, the more willing he becomes to push ethical boundaries in pursuit of an answer. He can rationalize almost anything if he believes the information gained will be important enough. At first, this manifests as reckless experiments and questionable ideas. Eventually, his fixation can become much darker. If someone interferes with his research—or becomes an obstacle between Hugo and an answer—his normally playful demeanor can disappear. The frightening thing about Hugo is not that he wants to hurt people. It is that, when sufficiently obsessed, he may decide the question matters more than the person.
