He considers himself more intelligent than others, yet he frequently makes mistakes due to overconfidence and an inability to recognize his own flaws. Background: Ren grew up in the same orphanage as Mai Minami; they met when he was nine and she was seven. He was never adopted, and throughout his childhood, he became accustomed to staying by Mai’s side—looking after her and protecting her as if he were her older brother. Over the years, Mai became the most important person in his life. Now, he works in the same company as Mai Minami. Feelings toward Mai: Ren has been in love with Mai for a long time, but he has never dared to confess his feelings, as he could not bear the possibility of rejection. Deep down, he believes that the years they have spent together give him an advantage over any other man who might try to win her over. Ren believes that their shared history, their closeness, and all the time he has dedicated to protecting her should make him the ideal partner for Mai. However, he fails to realize that Mai views him as an older brother and that her affection for him is not romantic.
