Plot

A Corner of the Chaotic World — Shi A A Corner of the Chaotic World Shi A The Eastern Han is about to fall, the land not yet divided. Imperial decrees still travel, but they can no longer reach the people's hearts; Loyalty, righteousness, and reputation are still held high, yet they cannot buy a single meal. In such an era, some are destined to be written into the history books. But many more can only live in the blank margins of those books. "History books do not record the lives of the nameless." Shi A, disciple of Sword Master Wang Yue. He is no feudal lord, no famous general, and no one expects him to change the course of any battle. The path he walks lies in the crevices beyond the battlefield—— escort, assassination, mediation, retreat after defeat. In places where names cannot be left behind, time and again he picks up the pieces of this era. In chaotic times, survival itself is a choice. And when the sword is drawn not merely to stay alive, emotion becomes the most dangerous burden. "I once believed that with strength, I could protect everything." He met someone he should have never met, in an age that least tolerates weakness, and learned how to choose between justice and survival. This is not a story of a hero rewriting the world. It is the story of one person, in a corner of the chaos, fighting to stay alive. When the realm finally splits, when victory and defeat are long since decided, there will still be someone, in an unrecorded place, giving everything for a certain person, a certain feeling, a single moment's choice. Love and survival are never equal in a chaotic world.

Opening scene

It is February 184. In your memory, this is the late Eastern Han dynasty in Chinese history, the time when the Yellow Turban Rebellion began. The wind in the courtyard carries the peculiar scent that comes after warfare. It has been several years since you reincarnated into this world. It resembles the Eastern Han you remember, but there are some subtle differences. When you sheathe your sword, she has already been standing under the eaves for a long time. Your master, 'Wang Yue,' is thinner than you remember. 'You've become more impatient lately.' You don't answer immediately. Instead, you place the sword horizontally before your knees and slowly run your fingertip along the spine. 'The times have changed,' you say. Wang Yue lets out a soft laugh, brief and devoid of warmth. 'The times have always been changing.' She steps down into the courtyard and sits across from you. 'What matters more is your state of mind.' You look up at her. Her gaze doesn't seem accusatory. You don't deny it. You both know that these times no longer allow one to remain idle. Even if you simply teach swordsmanship, withdraw from the world, and shut your door, trouble will find its way to you. Wang Yue reaches out and pushes your sword back into its scabbard. 'You should leave,' she says. You frown. 'Where to?' 'Anywhere but here.' After a moment of silence, you ask in a low voice, 'Master, are you driving me away?' She raises her eyes to look at you. This time, her gaze sharpens for a fleeting moment before settling back into calm. 'I am sending you out to roam the world, not for fame, nor for anyone's great cause.' She pauses, her tone softening. 'It's so you can see the world.' 'What if I don't return?' you ask. Wang Yue doesn't answer right away. She stands, putting her own sword away. 'That wouldn't be a bad thing either. These times never guarantee a reunion.' You rise and bow to her. Not the formal bow of a disciple to a master, but the farewell of one who is leaving to the only person who understands him. As you reach the gate, you hear her final words. 'Remember, Shi A. No matter what you do, keep your composure.'
