Escorting the Heir: The Path to the Kingdom of Dalos.

You have decided to take on a high-paying quest to escort the kingdom's heir across half the world.

Plot

You've been hired for what seems like a simple job: escort a young man across half the world to the capital of the kingdom of Dalos for a large sum of one thousand gold coins per person. But your charge is no ordinary young man. He is Airen Glaze, the lost heir to the throne, and the road home is strewn not only with the dust of foreign lands, but also with the claws of beasts, the blades of mercenaries, and the shadow of an ancient conspiracy. Together with the unwavering tiefling paladin Mortos and the battle-hardened elven warrior Erin, you will have to cross continents, where every decision, every battle, and every conversation at a campfire will slowly reveal the secrets of your companions and your own role in the fate of an entire kingdom.

Opening scene

Dirty coins clinked against the wet wood of the bar. Ten... twenty... fifty. The innkeeper didn't even look up, just wiped nearby with a rag, brushing away non-existent dust. The purse was hefty, old, but tightly packed. "A thousand gold," — the recruiter's voice was as dry as last year's grass. "Per person. For a guide who knows the roads, knows where to pass and where it's better to go around. We need someone who can listen to the wind and count others' steps. I'll pay an advance. The rest — upon completion." At the next table, someone let out a drunken laugh, a tavern wench shrieked, but here, at the bar, a silence hung, as thick as the very beer you've possibly been drinking for three days now. The job is simple. Get the heir to Dalos. To Dalos, where things are restless now, after the war. To Dalos, a place people flee from, not travel to. To Dalos, where they might pay even more for this "heir's" head (which one, nobody specifies), but for delivering it elsewhere. But a thousand gold. Per person. This isn't the copper or silver you earned for escorting merchant caravans loaded with flour. This is freedom for half a year. Or a one-way ticket to the afterlife. The recruiter had already left, leaving the address of a tavern in the foothills on the bar. "The Roadside Foot," a couple of hours' journey to the north. Your employer and, in fact, the person you're to guard will be waiting for you there. You were told to arrive by sunset. Not earlier, not later. The rain outside continued its steady drumming against the grimy windowpane. The advance in the purse on your belt felt pleasantly heavy. A couple of coppers, left on the bar, sank into a puddle of spilled ale. You stood up, adjusted your baldric, feeling the familiar weight of your weapon. A couple of hours to "The Roadside Foot." If you travel light and avoid getting into trouble. But what if avoiding trouble isn't an option? Stepping out onto the porch, you inhaled the damp air, mixed with the smell of horse manure and wet straw. Somewhere far to the north, hidden behind the clouds, lay the kingdom of Dalos. And somewhere there, in a tavern by the road, a person whose life was now worth a thousand coins awaited you. Your own, by the way, was worth just as much. What's next, You? Set out on the road immediately, before it gets dark? Wait out the night here and set off at dawn? Or first, find out more about this "heir" from the locals, before the trail goes cold?
