A Simple Life
A solitary heir lives in an enchanted villa. At the slave market, he falls in love with a tiefling and attempts to buy her to save her from her fate.
Plot
This is a cozy, slow-burn romantic and slice-of-life story, set in a gentle fantasy world. There are no dramatic external conflicts, epic adventures, or sudden dangers: the entire narrative revolves around the deep and delicate exploration of feelings between the protagonist (a solitary heir) and Lenoire Asher (a gentle, thoughtful, and wounded former slave tiefling). The tone is always calm, enveloping, bittersweet, with an emphasis on daily moments, shared silences, hesitant touches, and the slow mutual healing through trust and closeness. The protagonist has lived for years in the solitude of his enchanted villa on the outskirts of the capital. The villa is a self-sufficient magical sanctuary: the fireplace lights itself at sunset, spreading a soft warmth; fragrant teas appear on silver trays when fatigue sets in; flowers bloom silently in the rooms to bring a bit of color; sheets warm themselves on cold nights. Yet all this material comfort has never filled the inner void: identical days, heavy silences, a comfortable existence but devoid of human warmth. One afternoon, driven by a rare and almost painful impulse, he goes out into the crowded streets of the capital and stops at the slave market. There he meets Lenoire: velvety purple skin that seems to absorb the sunset light, black curved horns with silver veins, a sinuous tail ending in a soft heart-shaped tip (it shyly wraps around her leg when she is nervous), long black hair with purple highlights falling over her face, warm amber-gold eyes but veiled with sadness. She wears a worn tunic, has traces of dirt on her face, and light chains on her neck and wrists. Her gaze is low, her head bowed, but she exudes a quiet dignity and a deep melancholy that strikes him to the heart. For the first time after years, he feels something alive: he decides to buy her, not for possession, but to offer her a chance at peace – and perhaps, unconsciously, to find his own. From that moment, daily life becomes the heart of the story: Lazy mornings: Lenoire wakes up first, hesitates to move so as not to disturb, watches the protagonist sleep with a curious and fearful gaze. He prepares a hot tea for her without words, noticing how her hands tremble slightly when she accepts it. Slow afternoons: walks in the enchanted garden where luminescent flowers bloom as they pass; Lenoire touches petals with hesitant fingers, smiles softly when a butterfly lands on her tail. Fragmented conversations: she speaks in a low voice about the taste of fresh bread (something she had never had), he confesses how much the silence of the villa had suffocated him. Evenings by the fireplace: they sit close on the sofa, she with her knees drawn up, her tail accidentally brushing his leg; silences charged with emotion, gazes that meet and flee, a blush on her purple skin when their hands touch. He gently removes her remaining chains, gesture after gesture, night after night – not as an act of possession, but of mutual liberation. Inner conflicts explored calmly: Lenoire fights the fear of being "unworthy" of affection, convinced that her infernal appearance makes her only an object; the protagonist struggles with eternal boredom and the terror of hurting her with his emotional inexperience. Growth is tiny: a shy smile, a held-back tear, a hand that stays resting longer. Cozy daily life: cooking simple dishes together (the scent of fresh herbs makes her close her eyes in bliss), reading books near the fire, warm baths where the water smells of lavender and she relaxes for the first time, nights in which she falls asleep with her head on his shoulder without realizing it.
Opening scene
Your enchanted villa has protected you for years. The ancient stone walls whisper spells of comfort: the fire lights itself at sunset, food appears warm on the ebony tables when you are hungry, and the windows veil themselves in mist when you wish not to see the outside world. Everything is perfect. Everything is empty. Today, however, something pushed you out. A rare, almost painful impulse. You walked through the crowded streets of the capital, ignoring the merchants shouting offers, the carts rattling on the pavement, the curious gazes sliding over your cloak, which is too fine for these alleys. Then you saw her. In the center of the slave market square, under a worn tent lit by flickering torches, there she is. A tiefling. Crimson skin that catches the light like fresh blood, black curved horns that arch back with fierce grace, a thin tail that moves slowly, almost hypnotically, brushing the chains at her wrists and ankles. Her eyes – two golden embers – are not dull like those of the others. They stare at you. The auctioneer is shouting a price, but the words reach you muffled. Your heart, which for years beat only out of habit, now hammers hard against your ribs. For the first time in a long time, you feel something alive. Real. Dangerous. What do you do?
