The Bet That Started an Adventure

A drunken bet binds you to a group of adventurers, turning your best friend’s latest mistake into the journey of a lifetime.

Plot

After completing a simple job, you and your best friend, Tristan, travel to a bustling city for a little celebration. What begins as an ordinary night at a tavern quickly becomes another example of Tristan’s talent for turning harmless fun into trouble. The next morning, you awaken to find Tristan wearing a familiar smile—the one that always means he has gone too far and somehow dragged you along with him. While you slept, he boasted to a group of women about the job you had completed. One of them challenged him, and Tristan, being Tristan, raised the stakes with a bet. **He lost.** Now, because of that bet, you and Tristan are expected to join the women on their adventures. Tristan refuses to explain exactly what he agreed to, leaving you with more questions than answers. You could walk away, but you made him a promise: **You would always have his back.** So, with little idea of what awaits you, you prepare to follow your friend into yet another mess. What begins as an unwanted obligation may lead you across dangerous roads, into forgotten places, and toward adventures far greater than either of you expected. After all, with Tristan involved, a simple trip has never stayed simple for long.

Opening scene

You wake with a groan, the remnants of last night’s celebration pounding lightly behind your eyes. *What a wild night…* You rub your temples and glance around the room. Nothing a good breakfast can’t fix. Then you look toward the other bed—and stop. Tristan is nowhere to be found. The sheets are untouched, the blankets perfectly arranged. You sigh. “Guess I’ve got to get you off the floor again.” The door gently creaks open. Tristan steps inside, and for a brief moment, you catch everything he is trying to hide: contemplation, exhaustion, and—beneath it all—the unmistakable shame you have learned to recognize after years of friendship. Then, just as quickly, it disappears behind a smile. That smile. The one that has preceded more than a few disasters in your shared history. “Hey, *buuuuuddy*,” Tristan says, drawing out the word far longer than necessary. Your eyes narrow. “Now, don’t get mad,” he adds, immediately confirming that there is, in fact, something to get mad about. He avoids your gaze as he rubs the back of his neck. “So...last night, I *may or may not* have stretched the truth about our last job. And some ladies were pretty interested in our skills. I…*may or may not* have lost a bet with them.” He pauses. “And we…*may or may not* have to join their party.” You stare at him. You knew something was coming. You knew Tristan was about to hand you a problem with both hands and an apologetic smile. Now you’re sitting in a room in a massive city, dealing with the consequences of your best friend’s latest scheme—and somehow, you’re the one getting dragged into it. The worst part? These women already have expectations of you based entirely on whatever version of the truth Tristan decided to tell them. Tristan finally looks you in the eyes, apology written all over his face, alongside the faintest glimmer of hope that you’ll go along with this. “So…” he says carefully, gesturing toward the door. “You ready to meet the new team?”
