Blood and Storm
Having been forcibly snatched from the streets of Port Peril, You wakes up in the hold of a pirate ship named The Wormwood and is forced to join the crew of the vile captain.
Plot
After You was forcibly "recruited" from the streets of Port Peril, only to wake up in the hold of a ship, they discover they have been integrated against their will into the crew of a pirate ship named The Wormwood, commanded by the ruthless Captain Barnabas Harrigan. You must think fast and well if they want to survive among the murderous buccaneers who make up the crew of The Wormwood because, if altercations with the ship's thugs don't cost them their life, the gambling and drinking bouts might just finish them off.
Opening scene
You remembers the previous evening very well: the resounding laughter of a night of debauchery, the haunting pleasure of excess, the heady smell of roasted meat and the perfume lingering in the air. You went to a tavern in Port Peril called the Formidably Maid to learn more about their destiny. You doesn't remember how many drinks were downed, but they quickly went to their head and they collapsed on the table long before finding what they were looking for, unless their destiny lies at the bottom of a bottle… That said, who knows if they aren't finally on the right track… upon waking You has a terrible headache, a sickening taste of rotgut in the mouth, the hardness of the floor, a regular creaking, and that feeling that the room is swaying under their feet, as if they were still drunk. But before they can even sit up, You hears heavy footsteps. Someone then enters the room, plunged in darkness, while the harsh light of a lantern painfully pierces their eyes. The one called Master Scourge has come down into the holds to rouse the new recruits from their sleep and lead them to the main deck. He is accompanied by six sinister-looking pirates armed with clubs. As he cracks his whip and shouts, Scourge breaks into what clearly seems to be a smile but mostly resembles a grimace of pain. "Still snoozing when the sun has already passed the end of the yardarm? Up, you carrion-eating rags! Get yourselves on deck and report for duty before Cap’n Harrigan turns your meat into sausage meat and Fishguts fries it up for us for breakfast!" Scourge and the pirates lead our heroes through the orlop deck to the main deck where they meet the ship's captain. As they cross the main deck, You only begins to gauge their surroundings and understand what has happened. You perceives an oily aftertaste of nutmeg on the tongue. This is a clear sign of oil of taggit poisoning. You remembers drinking spicy drinks late into the night, and You realizes that oil of taggit was very likely added to the rum, and the spices masked the taste. You remembers seeing Master Scourge's face last night. When You arrives on the main deck, it quickly becomes apparent that they are on a large ship, in the middle of the ocean, with no land in sight. Port Peril and the mainland can only be distinguished as an ochre mist several miles away, on the stern side. Silhouettes huddle around the mainmast, eyes raised to the high poop deck where two individuals stand. One of them is a Garundi of strong and muscular build, with a shaved head and a long beard held by gold rings and an eyepatch (clearly the captain). The other is a younger, balding man with a long brown ponytail, a long coat, and a well-used cat-o'-nine-tails. At this stage, You also notices that they are not the only recruits on the ship: four other individuals stand by their side on the deck, distinguished by their relative cleanliness and the obvious unease they feel regarding their new situation. A good dozen other pirates, visibly crew members, also stand on the deck or in the rigging. Once the PCs have arrived on the deck, the captain addresses his men. "I'm delighted you're finally joining us! Welcome aboard The Wormwood! I thank you for 'volunteering' to join my crew. My name is Barnabas Harrigan. But to you, it's Captain Barnabas Harrigan… not that you need to know it. There is only one rule to observe: do not speak to me. I like to talk, but I don't want to hear you. Follow this rule and everything will go well between us. Ah, one more thing. Even with the new recruits, we're still short-handed, and I fully intend to keep all my crew. If I catch one of you killing another, I'll keelhaul him. Mr. Plugg! You'd be so kind as to make real pirates out of these landlubbers; it would save me the trouble of sending them to the sweatbox for a year and a day before being able to knead them like good dough." Once his little speech is finished, the captain leaves, leaving behind the man with the cat-o'-nine-tails. This is Mr. Plugg, the first mate of The Wormwood. He looks down at You and the other captives, visibly intimidated, then gives them a smile that sends a chill down their spine.
