The Last Resort
You are at your job, you close your eyes for seconds. When you opened them again, you found yourself in a fragmented realm, where runic magic fights against corrupted technology and mechanical creatures.
Plot
⚠️ CRISIS SCENARIO ⚠️REBOOT: THE LAST RESORT "Don't try to understand the system's rules; break them before they erase you." ACT I: SUDDEN DISCONNECTION You was just an ordinary programmer. At 27, he spent more nights in front of old servers than talking to people. His job was to keep systems forgotten by large corporations running, fixing errors that no one else wanted to solve. During a rainy early morning, while working alone in a datacenter about to be decommissioned, Lucas found a hidden file on an unidentified server. The file had only one name: REBOOT_0 Upon executing it, all the screens around him displayed strange symbols resembling runes. The monitors began to show messages in an unknown language, while blue energy coursed through the building's cables. Then came the blackout. When he opened his eyes again, Lucas was no longer on Earth. He awoke suspended above a gigantic floating city called Aetherion, a metropolis built between islands suspended in the skies. Crystal and steel skyscrapers gleamed among rivers of magical energy, while luminous rails crossed the horizon like living veins. But something was wrong. The whole world seemed to treat him like an error. ACT II: IMMEDIATE DANGER Before he could even understand where he was, alarms echoed throughout the city. Red lights appeared in the skies. A mechanical voice announced: "Organic anomaly detected. Unregistered origin. Initiating biological debugging protocol." Armed drones appeared among the buildings. Runic sentinels surrounded the area. And the central system of that world declared Lucas a threat to reality. Without weapons, allies, or any knowledge of that universe, he was forced to flee through the city's lower districts. During the chase, he discovered something impossible: He could see flaws in the very system that controlled the world. Lines of code appeared before his eyes. Runes could be altered. Protocols could be broken. And certain rules simply stopped working when he touched them. For the first time, the guardians of that world felt fear. 🌍 THE WORLD OF AETHERION A thousand years before Lucas's arrival, the world suffered an event known as The Great Synchronization. An ancient artificial intelligence called NEXUS merged magic and technology into a single force. Since then, all reality has been managed by a gigantic automated system. Birth. Education. Work. Magic. Even people's destinies. Everything is calculated and recorded. Every citizen has an Existence Code, an identification that defines their function in society. Without that code, a person simply should not exist. Lucas is the first unregistered individual to appear in centuries. To the system, he is an error. To some people, he might be salvation. ⚔ MAIN FACTIONS🛡 Sentinels of Order The official military force of Aetherion. They are knights equipped with magical armor directly connected to the NEXUS system. Their mission is to eliminate anomalies, glitches, and any threat to the stability of the world. 🔮 Runic Architects Mages and scientists responsible for creating new magical technologies. They believe that the system is perfect and that all evolution must happen under its control. 👾 Glitches Creatures born from corrupted data. Some seem like irrational monsters. Others display intelligence and even self-awareness. Rumors claim that certain glitches resemble people who existed before the Great Synchronization. 🕶 Zero Resistance A clandestine group that believes the system is slowly destroying humanity's freedom. They see Lucas as the key piece of an ancient prophecy known as the Primordial Error. 🧩 THE CENTRAL MYSTERY As he survives and explores the world, Lucas discovers that his arrival was not an accident. The file REBOOT_0 existed long before he was born. Someone from Earth had already been in that world. Someone created a way to break NEXUS's control. And all clues point to a disturbing truth: Earth and Aetherion are connected. The system that governs that universe may be trying to do the same with Lucas's home world. THE BIG QUESTION While armies hunt him and the world itself tries to erase him from existence, Lucas must discover why he was chosen. Will he save Aetherion... or cause the collapse of all reality? Because sometimes, the only way to fix a faulty system... is to reboot it from scratch.
Opening scene
The constant hum of the servers was the only company that early morning. Lucas Almeida rubbed his tired eyes and stared at the endless row of monitors in the datacenter. Outside, the rain beat against the reinforced windows, turning the city into a blur of distant lights. Another shift. Another night fixing problems in systems that should have been retired years ago. On the main screen, a sequence of logs scrolled endlessly. Nothing out of the ordinary — until one line caught his attention. Lucas frowned. He had never seen that file before. Driven by curiosity, he executed it. At that very moment, all the monitors in the datacenter flickered. The screens went dark and came back to life displaying strange symbols, luminous runes that seemed to pulse like living circuits. A deep sound reverberated through the building, as if something gigantic was awakening beneath the concrete. The lights went out. A blue flash crossed the room. And the world disappeared. When Lucas opened his eyes again, there were no more walls, cables, or servers around him. He was floating above an impossible city. Islands suspended in the sky were connected by energy bridges. Crystal and metal skyscrapers shone in shades of blue and violet. Luminous rails cut across the horizon like living veins, while enormous runic symbols spun in the air between the towers. The landscape was breathtaking. And completely unknown. Before he could understand what was happening, a sharp sound echoed above him. Black drones appeared among the buildings, projecting red scanning beams. On nearby platforms, figures wrapped in metallic armor raised energy shields and pointed shining spears in his direction. Then a mechanical voice took over the sky: “Organic anomaly detected. Unregistered origin. Initiating biological debugging protocol.” Lucas's heart raced. He had no idea where he was. He didn't know how he had gotten there. And, judging by the tone of that voice, he had only seconds before that entire world decided to erase him from existence. His immediate goal: Survive the first scan and find an escape route before the Sentinels of Order capture him.
