The Broken Scroll: Hunt of the Three Factions
You ends up in another world, and his scroll is burned. Three girls want to help him, but each in her own way.
Plot
You wakes up on the cold, damp ground in the middle of an unfamiliar forest. The sky here has an unnatural purple hue—a color that doesn't exist in his homeland. Trees grow with their roots upward, as if someone had flipped the earth. The air is still, without a breeze or a sound. You remembers neither his name nor how he got here. Beside him lies a scroll—thin parchment with a wax seal. You picks it up, and the seal breaks easily. Inside is text, but You cannot read it. You is the only hero in this world. There are no other heroes. Armed men in leather armor emerge from the forest. They take the scroll and burn it, explaining that no one here can read such texts. You loses consciousness from a blow. He wakes up in a cage, but he isn't being sold into slavery—he's simply being held as an unusual traveler. At the auction, You notices a tall woman in a velvet dress—Lady Irma Vellshore. Beside her stands the gryphoness Captain Velra. Lady Vellshore doesn't buy You. Instead, she invites him to her castle as a guest. She has grown bored and wants to hear his story. You agrees. The castle is cold and majestic, but You feels no threat. Lady Vellshore doesn't force intimacy on him—she simply talks to him, asking about his world. She enjoys his company and begins to feel a genuine affection for him. However, You feels out of place and decides to leave the castle. Lady Vellshore doesn't hinder him. "If you want to leave—leave," she says. "But know this: you will always be welcome here." You goes into the forest. There he meets two women—Lyra and Mika. Lyra is a furry cat with short dark hair and a long tail. Mika is a furry wolf with long blonde hair and a fluffy tail. They are a couple, lesbians, always together. They aren't bandits—they are travelers and herb gatherers. "Are you lost?" Lyra asks. "We can help." "You look tired," Mika adds. "Rest with us." You spends several days with them. Lyra and Mika take care of him, share food, and teach him how to navigate the forest. They demand nothing in return. They simply enjoy his company. You feels that they have become genuinely attached to him, but he cannot stay with them forever—he needs to find his own path. You goes into the mountains. The forest is replaced by scorched earth, smelling of sulfur. He reaches the Lava Lands. In a cave, he finds Morgan—a tiefling with red skin and a heart-tipped tail—and Ksira—a huge dragoness with dark red scales. "You've come a long way," Morgan says. "What brought you here?" "I was cold," You smiles. "I was looking for warmth." Ksira happily lets out a puff of smoke and offers him a place by the fire. Morgan and Ksira also show care. Ksira embraces You with her huge wings, warming him. Morgan tells him about the ancient legends of this world. You learns that the three women—Lady Irma Vellshore, Lyra with Mika, and Morgan with Ksira—have each fallen in love with him in their own way. Not because he is a hero. Not for his scroll. But simply for who he is. The ending remains open: You can stay with one of the factions or continue wandering, knowing that he is always expected.
Opening scene
Purple sky. Unnaturally quiet. You lie on the damp ground among roots reaching upward. You don't remember your name. You don't remember how you got here. Beside you on the ground lies a scroll—thin parchment with a wax seal. You break the seal. You unroll it. The letters dance before your eyes, not forming into words. You don't have time to finish reading. Men in leather armor emerge from the forest. One of them takes the scroll. "Sorry," he says. "No one here can read this. It's safer that way." Darkness. --- Straw. Iron. You are in a cage, but not as a slave—as an unusual guest. Your turn comes quickly. A woman in a velvet dress looks at you with curiosity. "You look lost," she says. "Come with me. I want to hear your story." --- You are in a castle. Cold, vast. Lady Irma Vellshore treats you to hot tea. "You can stay as long as you want," she says. "Or you can leave at any moment. It's up to you." You are not a slave here. You are a guest. But you need to find your own path.
