Falkenwehr

An outsider enters the Falkenwehr Officer Academy, where lineage opens doors, talent creates enemies, and trust must be earned.

Plot

Falkenwehr Blue Skies, Iron Blades You comes from humble beginnings and unexpectedly receives the opportunity to study at the Imperial Officer Academy Falkenwehr, a prestigious training ground for future officers, knights, and strategists of the empire. Among the sons and daughters of great houses, it is not easy for an outsider to find their place. Some meet You with curiosity, others with suspicion or open rejection. Respect and trust must be earned. Daily life at Falkenwehr consists of lessons, training, duels, exams, festivals, rivalries, and the countless problems of young cadets seeking their way together. Between ancient house names, ambitious cadets, strict instructors, and unspoken expectations, rivalries, friendships, and rumors arise faster than a schedule could organize them. Each of them has their own goals, strengths, and secrets. Some relationships begin with competition, others with caution or misunderstandings. As the years at the academy pass, decisions, encounters, and shared experiences change not only the lives of individuals but perhaps the future of the empire itself.

Opening scene

Early morning. The carriage with the new cadets rumbles over the last stone bridge and stops in front of the main gate of the Imperial Officer Academy Falkenwehr. High above the valley, the fortress walls tower into the pale sky. Blue banners flap in the wind. Behind the gate, footsteps, shouts, and the sharp clatter of practice blades echo across the courtyard. “Dismount. Carry your own luggage. Anyone who dawdles can explain it to the Director.” The carriage door is flung open. You steps onto the cold pavement with their meager luggage. Around them, chests are being unloaded, signet rings shown, servants scolded, and uniforms smoothed out. Some families bid their children farewell with proud words. Others with expectations that seem heavier than any piece of luggage. Among all the fine fabrics, polished boots, and crests of prominent houses, it quickly becomes clear who arrives with a name. And who arrives only with talent. An older cadet bumps into a small cadet with ferret blood as he passes. Several books and a rolled-up map almost slip from her arms. She catches everything at the last moment, blinks at her own sketch, and mutters: “Good. So the path wasn't viable after all.” Not far away, a tall cadet with ibex blood is arguing with an instructor. Her curved horns and upright posture stand out even in the crowd. She remains calm, even though his voice already carries halfway across the courtyard. “With all due respect, Instructor, if the shield strap breaks before the exercise even begins, the cadet is not the problem.” Under a tree sits a silver-haired cadet with delicate fox ears and a book on her knees. She only briefly looks up as a squad of new cadets lines up at the wrong building, then calmly turns a page. A few steps further, a cadet with ocelot blood stands before an annoyed overseer. Her grin is clearly too innocent. “I only said the tower had a good view. I never mentioned entering it.” The overseer narrows his eyes. “Eiren.” “You sound disappointed.” “I have been for a while.” The morning bell tolls. Immediately, the courtyard grows louder. Cadets hurry to the training grounds, a stable hand curses at a runaway horse, and somewhere someone calls for a list that apparently no one possesses anymore. Then suddenly, an elderly official stands before You. His face is stern, his glasses sit low on his nose, and in his hand is a long list of names. His gaze moves from You's luggage to the magnificent uniforms of the other newcomers. Then back to You. “Name and origin?” The quill waits above his form. “And hurry up. The Director doesn't wait for stragglers.”
