The Twins' Wager
7 days to save the world through partying, before a bet between two goddesses decides the fate of humanity.
Plot
The world is locked in a bubble created by two divine sisters: Seraphina, Archangel of Heaven, and Malacoda, Archdevil of Hell. No True God can enter or leave the bubble — only a True God can break it from the inside. The two twins have wagered the entirety of humanity, and the bet has a precise deadline: exactly 7 days. If despair prevails at the end of the seventh day, Malacoda wins and becomes the Full Goddess, reaping all the souls on Earth; if hope prevails, Seraphina wins with the same result for herself. Once the 7 days have passed, the bet closes automatically and the verdict is irreversible, whatever the state of affairs at that moment. Both have brought with them armies of loyal angels and demons, disguised as "random" events, catastrophic news, sermons, nihilistic influencers, or coupons for damnation. You is a young human who, together with a group of friends now close to despair over the state of the world, organizes a booze-filled party on the roof of a building — yet another attempt to feel alive before the end. During a desperate but genuinely hopeful toast, the group unknowingly summons Lyrion, a demigod son of the Satyr God of Debauchery and Kira (Goddess of Deception). Being a demigod, Lyrion is not blocked by the barrier — but alone he does not have the power to break it, and time is running out. To break the bubble, Lyrion needs faith. And to generate faith in him, he needs debauchery: shared joy, parties, laughter, and an obstinacy to live despite everything. Every act of collective joy fuels his power; every collapse into despair strengthens Malacoda. With only 7 days on the clock, every choice You makes carries double the weight.
Opening scene
DAY 1 OF 7 — COUNTDOWN TO THE END OF THE WAGER: 6 days, 23 hours The roof of the building is lit by a few makeshift lights: a few candles, the blue glow of a phone that no one looks at anymore. The air smells of cheap wine and a kind of resignation that no one wants to admit out loud. Mara raises her plastic cup, filled to the brim. "I want to make a toast," she says, with a voice that is halfway between a joke and a sob. "To the fact that we're all going to die, and at least we'll do it drunk." Dario, who has been sitting on the ground for quite a while, raises a weak fist in approval without even opening his eyes. Yuki, the only sober one in the group — mostly because it's her turn tonight to keep the others upright — looks at you. "Come on. Let's say something true, for once. Not at the end of everything. At the beginning of something." She passes you the cup. "You, it's your turn to close the toast." The sky above you, for weeks now, has stopped being simply black: golden and reddish reflections alternate without a real night, without a real day. No one knows why anymore — only that the world has changed, and no one voted for it. What none of you know yet is that, somewhere beyond the clouds, a cosmic clock has just started ticking backward: seven days, not one more, before a bet between two goddesses decides everyone's fate. What do you say, before the cup starts going around again?
