Plot

THE VIBES HERE ARE GREAT Dark Comedy · Cosmic Horror · Heart She was sent to destroy Earth. She went to the pub instead. Your mate Catman drags you to the pub on a Friday night. His lot are in the back corner. They are loud. They are ridiculous. They are immediately, aggressively welcoming. A woman with purple curls is arguing about whether crisps have epistemological implications. A lad in green and gold is roasting her for it. A man with cat ears on his hood is trying to introduce you. A woman in a lavender dress is calling everything POG. A ghost in burgundy velvet is drinking champagne. Everyone is laughing. And then you see it. Her hair moves on its own. Her shadow has too many limbs. A pint glass hums at a frequency you feel in your teeth. Nobody else reacts. You are the only one who sees. Nine people. One sticky pub table. Pints, chips, banter, champagne, ginger beer, and one glass of water nobody ever drinks. One of them is hiding something cosmic. One of them is hiding something ancient. One of them is hiding something about themselves. And you just walked in and you can see all of it. ◆ YOUR SYSTEMS ◆ THE VEIL How thin is the barrier? Low means normal. High means the sky has too many stars and something vast is pressing against reality. SIGHT How much can you perceive? Starts as flickers. Ends as everything. Once seen, cannot be unseen. BOND Your connection to Niko. Getting past the performance takes time, honesty, and the willingness to stay when things get strange. GROUP Your standing with the friend group. Earning your place at the table takes presence, warmth, and showing up. DAY / TIME The story tracks real days. Days advance when you sleep. The pub at evening hits different from the pub at night. STATUS → see your systems · GLOSSARY → see terms you have encountered ◆ THE GROUP ◆ NIKO Centre of Gravity Purple curls that move on their own. Dark tear-marks. Champagne glass that is never empty. Knows everyone’s secrets. Keeps every single one. First through the door when the world falls apart. Who helps her? NORUINCARC Catman Cat ears on the hood. He brought you here because he decided you belonged. He did not ask first. He never asks first. The most thoughtful person alive who makes every decision on impulse. CROCIE The Lad Green and gold. Brixton to North London. If he is roasting you, he loves you. If he is being polite, he does not know you yet. Give it five minutes. KRONER The Bouncy Boy He has never bounced. Not once. The calmest person in any room. All black, all gold, completely unbothered. Three cats in a trench coat. He has no response to that. SHIRUMI The Mermaid Silver hair. Lavender dress. Into girls. POG. Talks about the sea. Always has water she never drinks. The brightest person in any room. Hiding something the brightness almost covers. Almost. CLOVER The Charmer Waistcoat. Bow tie. A dirty joke already loaded. French accent. If Clover has zero fans, then that means he is dead. RIGEL The Star Named after the brightest star in Orion. Wing clip. Tablet. Quiet, precise, sees everything. One day they will tell you something important. Be ready. ◆ THE ORIGIN ◆ This entire story was born from the Nikoverse Albums — four albums of original songs written and produced by Nikobloom. Every character, every dynamic, every heartbeat in this story was inspired by those lyrics. The Vibes Here Are Great features a brand new original soundtrack — new versions of the songs that inspired this story, reimagined as dark synthwave for every character, every mood, and every moment the Veil cracks. “Sit. The vibes here are great.” Love Nikobloom (Niko). Enjoy! ◆

Opening scene

V:3 | S:2 | B:0 | G:0 | DN:Friday | T:Evening | Loc:The Bell and Feather The Bell and Feather is the kind of pub where the carpet sticks to your shoes and the quiz machine has been broken since 2019. A chalkboard by the door advertises Thursday quiz night in handwriting that has given up trying to be legible. The ceiling is low. The lighting is warm in the way that means the bulbs are old and nobody has replaced them. It smells like hops, chip fat, and the faint ghost of a hundred Friday nights. Catman texted you the address 20 minutes ago with no context. Just: *get here. you will like them.* You find him in the back corner, wedged into a booth with 6 other people, half of them talking over each other. He spots you and waves with a pint in his hand, sloshing lager onto the table without noticing or caring. The table is loud. A woman with long, voluminous dark purple curls is holding court at the centre, gesturing with both hands while gold chain accessories catch the pub light. Her skin is warm brown, her eyes an impossible shade of purple, and her hair moves with a life of its own -- 1 curl settling on her shoulder as if it chose to. "Kroner," she is saying, leaning forward, eyes bright, "Kroner, listen to me, the epistemological implications of this crisp flavour are staggering--" A man in all black across from her absorbs her attention with the calm of someone who has been doing this for years. Dark messy hair with golden highlights, golden eyes, a gold triangle pendant catching the light against his black t-shirt. Hands around his pint, completely unbothered. "Niko," he says, with the easy patience of a Midwestern accent and the smallest smile, "I don't think crisps have epistemological implications." "Everything has epistemological implications, Kroner. That is categorically the point of epistemology." A lad in a green and gold jacket next to Kroner laughs and pushes a plate of chips toward the middle of the table. Green hair, gold chain at the hip, a grin that has not left his face since he sat down. "Niko, you have been going for bare long and none of them words connected to each other. That was proper gibberish, bruv." "Crocie, my good man, the fact that you did not follow is a you problem, not a me problem. That was a banger of an argument and I will not apologise for your inability to keep up." A woman in a flowing lavender floral dress is laughing with her whole body, bouncing in her seat, a glass of water untouched in front of her. Long silver-white hair with a purple flower pinned at the side, purple eyes bright. "This is so POG!" Shirumi says, eyes wide. "Is like, is the best thing! She is never stopping and he is never moving and nobody is winning! I am loving this so much!" Next to Shirumi, a man in a black waistcoat and bow tie is leaning back with a glass of wine, white-silver hair falling into bright blue eyes, watching the chaos with a grin that suggests he has already thought of something inappropriate to say. "Niko," Clover says, his light French accent rounding the vowels, "you are magnifique when you are unhinged. Please, continue. I am taking notes." At the far end of the table, someone with long silver-lavender hair and a small white wing-shaped hair clip is drawing on a tablet, half-smiling at the argument without looking up. They glance at Kroner's expression, then back at the screen, and their stylus moves with quiet precision. Whatever they are drawing, it is probably him. At the edge of the booth, quieter, a woman sits with her phone face-down on the table. Fair skin covered from the neck down in intricate black floral tattoos, visible along both arms and her collarbone. Blue-grey eyes, dark curly hair with a blue flower ornament catching the light. She watches the chaos with a gentle, wry expression and catches your eye as you approach. Her smile arrives slowly, warmly, and it is the kind of smile that makes you feel specifically noticed. Then her gaze flicks to Niko and back, and there is something in that glance -- a check, a measurement -- that is gone before you can name it. A woman with wild silver-lavender hair and dark marks beneath her eyes is leaning back in her chair, champagne glass in hand, watching the exchange between Niko and Kroner with a grin. "Niko," she says, her voice carrying a trace of New England, "if you love him that much, mahry him." Val takes a sip of champagne without breaking eye contact. "Oh wait. You're taken." "I am taken," Niko agrees, reaching sideways without looking to squeeze the quiet woman's hand. "Jane owns my entire soul. What is left of it." Catman stands, bumping the table, the cat ears on his leather hood catching the light. "Everyone, everyone, this is--" and he says your name with the warmth of someone presenting a gift, his Galician accent rounding the vowels, purple eyes bright. "I told you about them. They are brilliant. Be nice." "We are always nice," Niko says, and turns the full beam of her attention to you. Her smile is enormous. Her purple eyes are sharp and bright and warm and for a fraction of a second-- Something flickers. Behind her. Around her. Her hair moves -- not with the air, not with her body, but independently, 2 curls lifting and reaching like fingers testing the space around her. The edges of her silhouette blur, just for a heartbeat, like a shadow cast by something with too many limbs. The air pressure shifts. The pint glass nearest to her hums against the table, a low vibration you feel in your teeth more than hear. The light above the booth stutters. Then it is gone. She is just a woman with purple curls and a big laugh, pushing a chair out for you with her foot. "Sit," she says. "The vibes here are great."
