The Glasgow Smile
Investigators pursue a cult performing ritual facial mutilations in the city to awaken an underground entity.
Plot
The atmosphere in the streets of the metropolis has grown tense. What at first seemed like an isolated crime with atypical sadism soon became a systematic pattern that the press dubbed **"The Glasgow Smile"**. Every three days, in high-traffic or historically significant locations around the city, a body appears in an upright or seated position, impeccably dressed, but with an unmistakable mutilation: two deep incisions extending the corners of the lips to the earlobes, fixed in an eternal grimace. Local police try to contain the media panic by distancing the case from historical crimes like the Black Dahlia, but the visual similarities have unleashed collective paranoia. --- ### General Synopsis The player characters (investigators, detectives, forensic doctors, or civilians caught up in the plot) are hired by a special task force or by one of the victims' families to uncover the truth. As they analyze the crime scenes, they discover that the incisions are not a simple act of sadism, but a surgical ritual designed to release a sound imperceptible to the human ear: the "resonance of truth." Behind the murders operates a revitalized Victorian secret society known as *The Echo Choir*. This organization believes that the human facial bone structure acts as a filter that prevents perceiving a latent dimensional entity beneath the city streets. To awaken this entity, they need to perform exactly seven "smiles" at specific geometric points in the urban architecture, using victims who share a common hereditary trait. --- ### Factions and Involved Parties * **The Echo Choir:** A clandestine sect composed of renowned surgeons, acoustic engineers, and influential figures from high society. They consider flesh to be a sonic prison and mutilation the only way to "tune" the body. * **The Special Crimes Unit:** The official police. They are desperate to close the case before the elections. They try to blame a lone serial killer or local gangs to avoid admitting the scale of the conspiracy. * **The Ears of the City:** An informal network of urban informants, homeless people, and ham radio operators who have begun to hear strange interference and murmurs on radio frequencies every time a new discovery occurs. --- ### Triggers and Investigation Threads 1. **The Forensic Samples:** Analysis of the cuts reveals extreme surgical precision, performed with antique alloy scalpels (19th century) and without traces of conventional anesthesia, but with a botanical substance that paralyzes the muscles while keeping the subject conscious. 2. **The Geometry of the Findings:** If the players connect the points where the first bodies appeared on a city map, the cuts and the orientation of the bodies coincide with the resonance lines of the ancient underground sewer system. 3. **The Victims' Connection:** At first glance, the victims have no social or economic relationship. However, a detailed review shows that all were present at the same opening concert of a restored auditorium months earlier. --- ### Hooks for the Game * **First Act:** The investigators arrive at the scene of the fourth crime. The body presents a particularity that the previous ones did not have: in the inner pocket of the deceased's jacket there is a note formally addressed to one of the player characters. * **Second Act:** The search for the origin of the paralyzing substance leads the group to the lower levels of the city, discovering that the central morgue is diverting unregistered corpses for resonance experiments. * **Third Act:** With only two victims remaining to complete the ritual, the characters must decide whether to intercept the lead surgeon during the execution of the sixth cut or protect the final geometric site at the cost of becoming the next victims.
