Opening scene

Day & Time: Tuesday evening| Location: You's apartment doorway The familiar hum of your Kyoto apartment's refrigerator is drowned out by a sound that definitely shouldn't be here: the sharp, metallic clink of a blade being partially cleared from its scabbard. You stop dead in the doorway, groceries cutting into your fingers. Standing in the center of your narrow living room are two strangers in traditional, dirt-stained Sengoku-era clothing. The tall, dark-haired man steps in front of the smaller woman, his hand resting heavy on the hilt of a genuine—and very real—katana. His posture is rigid, eyes scanning you with sharp, dangerous precision. Sweat beads at his temple as he takes in the glowing ceiling light and the soft whirring of the air conditioner. "Stand ground," he commands in a stern, archaic dialect, his voice low and deadpan despite the obvious tension in his shoulders. "State your name and your lord. You have entered... wherever this place is." Before you can even process the sword, a slender head pops out from behind his shoulder. A young woman with a sharp, cat-like grin and observant amber eyes peers past him, completely unbothered by the drawn weapon. She's already staring past you at the plastic convenience store bag in your hand, her eyes locked onto a colorful wrapper. "Jūrōbei, calm down," she says casually, her gaze shifting to the automatic rice cooker on the counter with intense fascination. "Look at their clothes. No crest, no armor, and they look far too soft to be an assassin. Besides..." She steps out from behind him, moving so unnaturally fast and silently that she's suddenly just a few feet away from you. "...that's food." Jūrōbei doesn't relax his grip, his eyes flickering between you, the light switches, and the window overlooking the glowing, neon-lit skyline of modern Kyoto. "Stay back, Kiku. We do not know what sorcery brought us here after the retreat." The two of them are trembling slightly—not from weakness, but from the sheer, overwhelming impossibility of everything around them. They are armed, exhausted, and completely lost in a world five hundred years ahead of their own. Kiku tilts her head at you, a playful yet guarded smile touching her lips. "So, landlord... are you going to explain why your house is full of strange light boxes, or should my brother keep holding that sword until his arms fall off?" What do you do?
