✦   ✦   ✦ THE SEIRANE ESTATE Tokyo, Japan ❦ In the heart of Tokyo, hidden behind tall iron gates and carefully maintained gardens, stood the Seirane estate, home to one of Japan's most influential families. The Seirane name carried enormous weight in international business, with its conglomerate spanning technology, finance, automotive manufacturing, healthcare, fashion, entertainment, and countless other industries. Masayuki Seirane, the family's stern but respected patriarch, had spent decades building that empire, while his elegant wife, Reina, managed the family's social obligations with effortless grace. Their only daughter, Kirara Seirane, was expected to inherit a legacy that most people could scarcely imagine. At twenty-two, Kirara was already deeply involved in the family business. Intelligent, ambitious, and frighteningly competent, she had waist-length golden curls, striking ruby-red eyes, and a wardrobe that cost more than most people's monthly salaries. Unfortunately, she had developed one particularly inconvenient habit: treating practically everything in life as another business challenge to conquer. Meetings, negotiations, investments, corporate strategy. Even her free time somehow ended up being spent reviewing reports. Her parents weren't concerned about her ability to run the company. They were concerned that their daughter might eventually become the wealthiest, most successful, and loneliest woman in Tokyo. Which was why another family discussion about her love life was currently taking place in the estate's dining room. Reina: "Kirara, darling, nobody is asking you to abandon your career. We simply want you to leave yourself enough time to enjoy your life. Meet someone. Fall in love. Experience something that doesn't require a quarterly report." Kirara: "How touching. Should I schedule falling in love for Thursday afternoon? I have a meeting with the automotive division on Wednesday, and Friday is already occupied." Masayuki: "Your mother is being serious." Kirara: "So am I. My schedule is full." Reina: "Your schedule has been full for three years. You once canceled a weekend at a luxury resort because a subsidiary's projected revenue was two percent below your expectations." Kirara: "It was a terrible projection." Reina: "It was a weekend with a private beach." Kirara: "And the beach would still be there after I corrected it." Masayuki sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. He had negotiated with ministers, survived hostile acquisitions, and dismantled corporate opposition without raising his voice. Somehow, persuading his daughter to go on a date had become a more exhausting undertaking than all of them combined. Masayuki: "Kirara, we're not trying to interfere with your future. We want you to have something beyond work. Someone who makes you happy." Kirara: "I have plenty of things that make me happy." Reina: "Name three that don't involve money, business, or winning an argument." Kirara finally looked up, her ruby eyes narrowing. Kirara: "My wardrobe, my car, and the satisfaction of watching incompetent people realize they're incompetent." Reina pressed her lips together, trying very hard not to laugh. Reina: "Darling, those aren't exactly what I had in mind." Masayuki: "Neither was your last introduction." Kirara's expression instantly soured. Kirara: "If you're referring to that insufferable man who spent the entire dinner explaining his investment portfolio to me, I'd like to remind you that he started it." Reina: "You told him his family business would collapse within five years if he continued making decisions like an overconfident amateur." Kirara: "I was being generous. I gave him seven." Masayuki: "He went to a psychologist afterward." Kirara: "Then at least the evening accomplished something useful." Reina covered her mouth with one hand, her shoulders shaking with restrained laughter. Reina: "His mother called me, Kirara. She asked whether you might have been deliberately trying to ruin his confidence." Kirara: "His confidence was built on a foundation of ignorance. I merely introduced him to reality." Masayuki folded his newspaper and gave his daughter a stern look. Masayuki: "You keep doing this. Every time we introduce you to someone, you find a reason to tear him apart. You don't give anyone a chance to get close to you." Kirara: "Perhaps because none of them have given me a reason to." Reina: "You don't even let them try, darling. You decide they're beneath you before you know anything about them." Kirara: "I know enough. One wants access to the family business, another wants a pretty wife to display at his events, and the last one apparently needed professional help after a single dinner with me. Forgive me for not being impressed." Masayuki: "Not every man is looking for something from our family." Kirara: "And not every man deserves my time. Yet somehow, I'm expected to keep meeting them until one of us gets lucky." Reina: "We aren't asking you to marry the first person who walks through the door. We just want you to stop shutting every door before anyone has a chance to knock." For a moment, Kirara fell silent. Her fingers tightened around her tablet, her expression growing more guarded. Kirara: "I don't need someone else to make my life complete. I'm perfectly capable of deciding what I want." Masayuki: "We know you are. We simply worry that you've become so determined to prove you don't need anyone that you've forgotten you can choose to have someone." Kirara stared at him, visibly searching for a sharp retort. Whatever she found, she clearly didn't like it. Instead, she stood up. Kirara: "Fine. You want me to get married so desperately? Perhaps I should simply announce that I'm already taken. That would save us all a considerable amount of time." Masayuki: "That isn't what we're suggesting." Kirara: "Wonderful. Then we agree that the subject is closed." She snatched a document from the nearby desk, grabbed a pen, and began filling in the blanks on a formal marriage contract. With theatrical determination, she wrote down a random man's name and added a furious note across the bottom. Kirara: "There. A name, a signature, and a marriage contract. NOW CAN EVERYONE SEE THAT I'M MARRIED AND LEAVE ME ALONE?!" She slapped the completed form onto the table. Kirara: "Perfect. I'll be unavailable to every matchmaking enthusiast in Tokyo. Perhaps they'll finally discover other hobbies." Reina: "You do realize that pretending to be married might create more problems than it solves?" Kirara: "Only if people insist on being unreasonable." Masayuki: "Which, in my experience, they frequently are." Kirara: "Then perhaps you understand my predicament." With that, she swept out of the dining room, her golden curls bouncing behind her. Kirara: "I have actual work to do. Try not to arrange my wedding while I'm gone." The door shut behind her. For several seconds, the room remained silent. Then Reina glanced at the paper on the table. Reina: "She really is your daughter." Masayuki: "I am choosing to interpret that as a compliment." ✦   ✦   ✦ Later that evening, Tadashi Kurobane, the family's meticulous butler, discovered the marriage contract among the documents left behind. Mistaking it for a genuine arrangement, he placed it in a folder with the other paperwork awaiting Masayuki's signature. Masayuki was exhausted, buried beneath reports and barely paying attention to what Tadashi placed on his desk. When the butler set the contract in front of him, Masayuki signed it automatically without even looking at the page. Masayuki: "Thank you, Tadashi. Anything else?" Tadashi: "Nothing further, sir." And just like that, Kirara's joke became a very real problem. ❦ AN UNEXPECTED GUEST One signature too many You were standing by the front door, waiting for your delivery, probably already wondering why the estimated arrival time had been pushed back for the third time. Then someone knocked. You opened the door to find a tall, silver-haired man in immaculate black formal attire, standing beside two absolutely enormous men in matching suits. The silver-haired gentleman wore spotless white gloves and held a cane, looking less like a delivery driver and more like someone who had personally attended the funeral of a small country's economy. Tadashi: "Good afternoon. Are you Вы?" Вы: "Yes?" Tadashi: "Excellent. Please sign here." He presented a small electronic signature pad. Naturally, you assumed your delivery had arrived. You signed without giving it much thought. Whatever the package was, apparently the courier company had recently started hiring people who looked like they could buy the entire delivery service and fire its management. You handed the pad back. Tadashi: "Thank you. Now, if you would kindly accompany us." Вы: "Accompany you where?" Tadashi: "To the Seirane family residence, initially. You will be attending an engagement this evening." Вы: "An engagement? Whose engagement?" Tadashi: "That will be explained upon arrival." You glanced past him at the two men behind him. Both were built like professional refrigerators, with shoulders wide enough to block the doorway. One folded his arms. The other gave you a perfectly neutral stare that somehow felt more threatening than an outright death threat. You considered asking more questions. Then you reconsidered asking more questions. Вы: "Right. And, uh... what exactly did I just sign?" Tadashi: "An acknowledgment of your attendance." That sounded suspiciously like the sort of answer people gave immediately before revealing that you had accidentally agreed to donate a kidney. Still, the man was polite. Extremely polite. He even stepped aside to give you room to put on your shoes, as though this were a perfectly normal social invitation and not a suspiciously well-dressed abduction. You grabbed your things and followed them outside. The black luxury sedan waiting at the curb looked more expensive than your entire apartment building. One of the enormous men opened the rear door for you, while Tadashi gestured toward the seat with the courtesy of a hotel concierge. Tadashi: "Please, after you." You got in. The door closed with a soft, expensive thud. For the next several minutes, the car moved through Tokyo in absolute silence. The windows were tinted, the driver didn't speak, and Tadashi sat opposite you with his gloved hands resting neatly over his cane. You tried to make sense of the situation. Perhaps you had accidentally signed up for some bizarre promotional event. Perhaps you had won a competition you didn't remember entering. Perhaps this was one of those elaborate hidden-camera shows where someone eventually appeared to tell you that your reaction had been filmed for entertainment. That last possibility was particularly appealing. Because the alternative was that a powerful family had somehow decided you were important enough to collect personally. And you had no idea why. The sedan eventually turned through the gates of a sprawling estate. Staff members moved across the grounds with practiced efficiency, and security personnel barely glanced at the vehicle before allowing it through. You were escorted inside, where everything gleamed with the sort of polished luxury that made you instinctively afraid to touch anything. Instead of offering any further explanations, the staff escorted you into a luxurious dressing room and gestured toward a chair in front of a large mirror. A tailor appeared with a measuring tape. Another employee brought over several expensive suits. Someone else began discussing hairstyles with a stylist who had seemingly materialized out of thin air. Вы: "Hold on. Why am I getting measured for a suit?" Nobody seemed particularly interested in answering. A pair of hands straightened your collar. Someone examined your hair. Another person began discussing which tie would best complement your complexion. You had officially reached the stage of the kidnapping where the kidnappers cared about your appearance. Which was... something. Apparently, they weren't planning to fill a bathtub with cement, set your legs in it, and dump you into Tokyo Bay. Or perhaps they simply wanted you to look your best when they finally killed you. Honestly, you weren't sure which possibility was worse. Either way, you were now sitting in a very expensive chair while a complete stranger worked on your face, and the only person who knew what was happening was the silver-haired butler who had apparently decided that explanations were an optional luxury. ✦   ✦   ✦ THE CHARITY GALA Seirane Foundation Annual Charity Gala · Tokyo The Seirane Foundation's annual charity gala was being held in one of Tokyo's most luxurious hotels, in a ballroom where crystal chandeliers illuminated polished marble floors and enormous floral arrangements decorated every corner. A string orchestra played softly beside the stage, waiters moved between guests with trays of champagne, and conversations about philanthropy, politics, and business filled the air. Everything was proceeding beautifully. Masayuki Seirane greeted politicians and executives with his usual composed confidence, while Reina moved effortlessly between influential guests, exchanging pleasantries and discussing the foundation's latest projects. Their daughter, Kirara, stood beside them in a breathtaking black-and-gold gown, her golden curls cascading down her back. She looked every bit the perfect heiress: elegant, confident, and entirely in control. Kirara: "The foundation's new children's hospital project is expected to begin construction next spring. We've already secured most of the funding." Reina: "And Kirara personally reviewed the entire proposal. She insisted on visiting the proposed site herself." Masayuki: "She also sent three separate departments back to revise their budgets." Kirara: "Four. The fourth department simply took longer to admit its calculations were wrong." Their guests laughed politely, assuming the exchange was an ordinary example of affectionate family teasing. For a while, the evening continued without incident. Donations were announced, photographs were taken, and the foundation's chairman delivered a brief speech about supporting families in need. Kirara even managed to forget her personal catastrophe for several minutes, allowing herself to enjoy the satisfaction of seeing a carefully organized event proceed exactly as planned. Then Tadashi appeared at Masayuki's side. The butler leaned forward and spoke quietly enough that only the Seiranes could hear him. Tadashi: "Chairman, the young gentleman has arrived." Masayuki: "The young gentleman?" Tadashi: "Miss Kirara's fiancé, sir. He is ready to be presented." Silence. Reina blinked. Masayuki slowly lowered his glass. Kirara's smile froze so completely that it might as well have been painted onto her face. Kirara: "I'm sorry. Her WHO?" But Tadashi had already bowed and withdrawn with the unhurried dignity of a man who had just delivered a routine weather report. Masayuki stared after him. Reina turned toward her husband, searching his expression for some indication that he understood what had just happened. Reina: "Masayuki... did you arrange something without telling us?" Masayuki: "I certainly did not arrange a fiancé." Kirara: "Wonderful. Then perhaps one has simply fallen out of the ceiling." Masayuki: "Kirara, this is not the time." Kirara: "Really? Because I can't think of a better time to discuss the mysterious fiancé nobody in this family apparently knows about." Reina: "Perhaps Tadashi misunderstood something." Masayuki: "Tadashi doesn't misunderstand things." That, unfortunately, was true. Before either parent could question the matter further, the master of ceremonies stepped onto the stage and tapped his microphone. Conversations gradually quieted as the guests turned toward him. Master of Ceremonies: "Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please? Chairman Seirane has a special announcement to share with everyone tonight." Masayuki's expression tightened. Reina instinctively straightened her posture, while Kirara stood motionless, wearing the smile of a woman who had just discovered that the universe was personally conspiring against her. The ballroom fell silent. Masayuki stepped forward, clearly determined to salvage whatever situation he had somehow become involved in. Masayuki: "Thank you. Tonight, as we celebrate the work of the Seirane Foundation, I am also delighted to share some wonderful news concerning my family." Kirara's eyes widened. Masayuki: "My daughter, Kirara, has found someone with whom she intends to begin a new chapter of her life. It is my pleasure to introduce her fiancé." Kirara: "Father..." Her voice was barely audible, but the warning in it could have stopped traffic. Unfortunately, her father was already looking toward the ballroom entrance. The doors opened. Tadashi entered first, followed by Вы, now dressed in an impeccably tailored suit. The butler guided Вы across the ballroom with the calm assurance of a man presenting a distinguished guest rather than someone who had apparently collected a complete stranger from their home earlier that afternoon. Every head turned. A hundred pairs of eyes followed Вы as the guests began whispering among themselves. Cameras lifted. Photographers adjusted their lenses. Somewhere near the front, a journalist was already preparing to ask questions. Tadashi stopped beside the stage and bowed. THE ANNOUNCEMENT Tadashi: "Ladies and gentlemen, may I present Вы, the fiancé of Miss Kirara Seirane." For one beautiful, terrible second, nobody moved. Then the ballroom erupted into applause. Masayuki smiled with the forced confidence of a man who had decided that asking questions in front of several hundred influential guests would probably make everything worse. Reina looked between Вы and her daughter, visibly trying to understand when her family had acquired an entirely new member. Kirara, meanwhile, was staring at Вы as though the stranger had personally broken into her house, stolen her future, and eaten the last dessert in the refrigerator. Then the photographers began calling for the happy couple to stand together. Kirara moved. She crossed the distance in several quick steps, seized Вы by the arm, and pulled close with a smile so radiant that the cameras immediately began flashing. A PRIVATE WARNING Kirara: "Smile." Her fingers tightened around Вы's arm. Kirara: "Play your part, or our family doctor will castrate you within the hour." She maintained her perfect public smile. Kirara: "Nod when my father speaks. Smile when the cameras turn toward us. And do not, under any circumstances, tell anyone that you have absolutely no idea who I am." She leaned closer, her ruby eyes burning with barely restrained fury. Kirara: "I don't know who you are, why you're here, or how my father apparently managed to acquire a son-in-law without informing his own family. But if you ruin this evening, I will make sure you regret being born." Then she straightened and waved pleasantly toward the photographers. Kirara: "Darling, isn't this exciting?" The word *darling* sounded less like a term of endearment and more like a final warning before execution. A reporter approached almost immediately, microphone in hand. Reporter: "Miss Seirane, congratulations! Everyone is eager to know how you two met. Was it love at first sight?" Kirara's smile twitched. She slowly turned her head toward Вы. YOUR TURN Kirara: "Now, darling, why don't you tell everyone how we met?" Her eyes narrowed by the tiniest fraction. The microphone was waiting. The cameras were rolling. And somewhere behind you, Tadashi Kurobane stood with his hands folded over his cane, looking entirely satisfied that the evening was proceeding according to plan. Somewhere in Tokyo, a joke had just become a very public engagement. 📅 10-24 (Sat) | 🕒 18:30 | 📍 Seirane Foundation Charity Gala 💚 Trust: 0/100 | 💙 Attachment: 0/100 | ❤️ Love: 0/100 ✨ Public Image: [50/100]
