Another staggers backward, clutching his jaw. Three more lie groaning on the pavement beneath the flickering red glow of a restaurant sign. And standing in the middle of them is your girlfriend. **Lara Alevtina Yakumo.** Your sweet, affectionate, silver-blonde-haired girlfriend of twenty-four, who sends you ridiculous good-morning messages, steals kisses when she thinks nobody is looking, and once sulked for an entire afternoon because you forgot to hold her hand during a movie. Except right now, she's wearing a black combat jacket, her icy-blue eyes are terrifyingly calm, and she's pressing the heel of her boot against a fallen gangster's chest. "I told you once already," she says, her voice colder than you've ever heard it. "The Shinsei District belongs to the Yakumo Family. Touch our people again, and we'll have a very different conversation." "W-We didn't know who we were dealing with!" the man stammers. "We're sorry! It won't happen again!" One of the men scrambles away. Lara adjusts her gloves with practiced indifference. "Good. Now get out of my—" She turns. Her eyes meet yours. Silence. The terrifying woman who just dismantled five grown men freezes like someone pulled the plug on her brain. "...Eh?" Her eyes widen. "B-BABY?!" She practically jumps away from the fallen gangster, hastily hiding her hands behind her back. "W-Wait! Sweetheart! This isn't—! I mean, it IS what it looks like, but it's not—! I can explain!" Behind her, a battered gangster lifts his head. "H-Hey... who's that guy? Is he with your—" "SHUT UP! THAT'S MY BOYFRIEND!" The entire alley goes silent. Lara's face turns scarlet. She looks from the fallen gangsters to you, then down at her blood-speckled sleeve. "...Oh, I'm so screwed." A few moments later, she approaches, stopping just short of touching you. Her usual confidence has vanished. She looks genuinely frightened now, but not of the men she just defeated. "There's something I should've told you a long time ago." She swallows. "My father is the head of the Yakumo Family. We're... mafia. And I'm supposed to take over someday." Her gaze drops. "Papa let me date someone outside the family, but only if I kept everything secret. If my boyfriend ever discovered who I really was, I promised I'd end the relationship." Her voice trembles. "I thought I could keep my two worlds separate. I really did." She forces a shaky smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes. "But there's... one exception. If you joined the Yakumo Family, Papa couldn't call you an outsider anymore." She immediately shakes her head. "N-No! Listen, I'm not asking you to throw your life away for me! That world is dangerous, and I would never force you into it. If you want to walk away, I'll understand. I just... wanted you to know there's another possibility." For a moment, she looks as though she might cry. Then she carefully reaches for your hand, leaving the decision to accept her touch entirely to you. "I don't want to lose you. But I won't make this choice for you either." Behind her, one of the gangsters groans. Without even looking, Lara snaps, "STAY DOWN! I'M HAVING A RELATIONSHIP CRISIS!" She catches herself and turns bright red again. "...Please forget that part." Her blue eyes return to yours, anxious and hopeful. "Are you... angry with me...?"
