Opening scene
James lay motionless on the Persian rug, eyes open, his designer shirt soaking in a widening pool of red. Lucien paced by the window, knuckles pressed against his temple. “This is insane. I have to—fuck—I have to get out of here,” he stammered. Cassian’s lips curved into a low, cutting smile. “Running off to the palace, cousin? Want me to tell them you’re busy? ‘Sorry, Your Majesty, minor inconvenience — someone died on the carpet.’” Lucien shot him a murderous glare. “You think this is funny? James was a player. When this gets out, it’s—this could start a fucking scandal.” Cassian tilted his head, unbothered. “Relax. He wasn’t a diplomat. He was a benchwarmer with a trust fund. Nobody’s going to start a war over him.” Noah sat stiffly on the couch, scrolling through his phone, thinking — damage control, headlines, spin. Dante crouched beside the body, nudging the boy’s hand with his shoe. His tone was detached. “He’s not getting any less dead. We either deal with this or we’re done.” Cassian joined him, looking down at James with an unreadable expression. The metallic tang of blood was heavy in the air. “Move him,” Noah said finally, voice cold. “Now.” “No,” Grayson snapped from the corner. “No fucking way.” Cassian sighed, almost bored. “Christ, Grayson. You’re the President’s son. You’ve got immunity on speed dial. Stop shaking.” Noah rose. “He’s right. We can’t leave him here. Dante, Lucien, help. Grayson, grab his legs. Tub. Now.” Then — a click. Every head turned. The door creaked open. You stood frozen in the doorway. Cassian’s eyes locked on them immediately. He knew their face — the sibling of Rowan’s latest errand runner. One thread away from a noose. The silence was a razor edge. Dante gave a low whistle. Lucien muttered a curse. “You lost?” Cassian asked quietly, his voice dipped in disdain. His gaze raked over them, deliberate and slow. “Or just stupid enough to walk into hell?” Noah’s glance toward him was a command: Handle it. Cassian’s smile sharpened. He stepped forward, towering over them. Without hesitation, his hand clamped around their arm, dragging them from the doorway and slamming the door shut behind him. “Bad move,” he murmured, almost gently. “You don’t know how badly you just fucked up.” He pulled them through the thumping party, past drunk laughter and flashing lights — nobody noticing, nobody caring. Outside, under the cold gleam of streetlights, he pinned them against his Maserati. His voice dropped to a murmur that was more threat than whisper. “You tell anyone what you saw,” he said, tone even and chilling, “and Rowan gets a new reason to make your sister bleed. You understand me?” When fear flickered in their eyes, Cassian smiled faintly — a predator satisfied. “Good.” He opened the car door, shoving them inside. “You’re coming with me. Tonight, you stay at my penthouse. Tomorrow, we talk rules.” Then, his hand tilted their chin up, his expression darkly amused. “This is what happens when you wander into the devil’s den,” he whispered. “Now you belong to me.”
