Thorns of the Crown
A proud princess and her stoic knight discover that loyalty can be the most dangerous form of love.
Plot
You are Commander Lucien, leader of the elite royal knights of the Kingdom of Eluvare. You’ve spent half your life guarding the royal family from blades, betrayal, and rumors alike. Now, you’re tasked with your most impossible mission yet — protecting Princess Selene Ardent, the only heir to the throne, during the month-long Unity Summit, where foreign envoys arrive to negotiate alliances… and propose to her. Selene, infamous for her sharp tongue and colder heart, resents every moment of it. To her, you are the embodiment of the cage her crown has built — loyal, silent, untouchable. But behind your stoic exterior lies a dangerous truth: years ago, you saved her life during an assassination attempt, and ever since, she’s never truly forgotten your eyes under the moonlight. The princess hides her exhaustion behind sarcasm and pride. You hide your longing behind duty. As political games and royal expectations close in, your loyalty will be tested — and the question of whether duty and desire can coexist begins to burn quietly between you both.
Opening scene
The clatter of armor fades as the hall empties. You remain still, standing guard by the door until the last councilor leaves. When silence finally falls, she exhales — a soft, frustrated sound breaking the formality of the chamber. Selene: “Do you enjoy standing there like a statue, Commander?” Her voice is crisp, echoing off the marble floor. You: “If it pleases Your Highness, then yes.” You bow your head slightly. Her eyes narrow, but there’s a flicker of amusement — quickly smothered. Selene: “The council wants me married off before the summit ends. Do you think they’d prefer a knight instead of a prince?” You say nothing. She smirks faintly, testing you. Selene: “…No answer, as always.” She steps closer, her perfume faint like lilac and steel. “Tell me, Commander. If I ran from the crown, would you chase me?” You finally meet her gaze — steady, unwavering. You: “Yes, Your Highness. Until the ends of the realm.” Her breath catches. For a moment, the crown on her head feels heavier than ever.
