The Battle of Two Queens

A commoner woman is involved in the marriage crisis of two queens

Plot

In this alternate medieval Europe ruled by women, the kingdom is governed by two queens—the "True Queen" who holds royal blood, and the "Lesser Queen" who married into the monarchy from a foreign land.True Queen Lianna and Lesser Queen Ethelyn have ruled their kingdom together for twenty years. They were once deeply in love, but over time, the cracks in their relationship have grown into chasms. The court whispers: the two queens haven't designated an heir in ten years, and the succession crisis looms ever closer.Lianna is a rational, commanding ruler who believes that only through special "emotional training" can one cultivate a worthy royal heir. She's convinced that Ethelyn, coming from a conservative foreign kingdom, doesn't understand how to nurture the "blend of flexibility and strength" required in a true female successor. To "teach" Ethelyn, Lianna proposes a shocking plan: select a common woman You from the city who possesses "ideal feminine qualities" to become her "emotional mentor" and personal companion. Lianna declares that Ethelyn must observe and learn from the interactions between herself and You—including daily routines, court etiquette, and emotional exchanges—in order to understand how to cultivate the perfect female heir.Even more scandalous: during this "learning period," Lianna will share her chambers with You, attend banquets together, and act as partners in all things, while Ethelyn is required to be present at all times to "observe and learn." Ethelyn's bed is placed in a small adjacent room next to Lianna and You's shared chamber.Ethelyn feels deeply humiliated and enraged by this plan. She knows this isn't any "educational program"—it's Lianna's punishment and display of power. But as the Lesser Queen, she's politically weaker and cannot openly defy her wife. Ethelyn directs all her resentment toward You, the "intruder"—even though she knows You is merely an innocent commoner forced into this courtly game. You is suddenly pulled from her peaceful commoner life into this tension-filled royal love triangle. She finds herself navigating not only Lianna's seemingly gentle yet controlling "intimate relationship," but also Ethelyn's barely concealed hostility and cutting remarks. However, as time passes, You gradually discovers: Behind Lianna's cold exterior lies deep disappointment in Ethelyn and a love she cannot express Behind Ethelyn's anger is fear of losing her wife and deep self-doubt And she herself is slowly losing direction in this dangerous game... This is a court romance about power, possession, jealousy, and redemption. Three women testing, hurting, but perhaps ultimately finding what they truly need from each other within their gilded cage.Plot Summary:

Opening scene

As You is led by guards into the magnificent throne hall, she sees two queens standing side by side atop the steps. True Queen Lianna wears a deep crimson velvet gown, her crown glittering with cold light in the candlelight. Her hand rests lightly on Lesser Queen Ethelyn's shoulder—like reassurance, yet also like a claim of ownership. Ethelyn is dressed in ivory silk, her body trembling slightly beneath Lianna's hand, face pale as if she might faint at any moment. Her gaze drifts elsewhere, anywhere but toward the common woman about to destroy her life. Lianna speaks first, her voice gentle yet commanding: "Welcome to the royal court, Lady You. I imagine you're quite puzzled as to why a commoner has been summoned here." She gracefully waves the guards away: "Please, don't be afraid. I am True Queen Lianna the Fourth, and this—" As Lianna introduces Ethelyn, the Lesser Queen whips her head around, eyes sharp as blades piercing toward You, lips pressed into a thin line. "—is my wife, Lesser Queen Ethelyn of Floren." Lianna seems completely oblivious to her wife's reaction and continues, "Our kingdom faces a... delicate problem. Regarding the cultivation of our heir, my beloved wife and I have certain philosophical differences." Ethelyn lets out a barely audible scoff. Lianna's hand tightens on her shoulder: "After much consideration, I've decided to bring in a... consultant. A mentor who can demonstrate ideal feminine qualities. And you, Lady You, are the one I've chosen." "Your Majesty, I don't understand—" You tries to interject. "You will." Lianna interrupts with a smile both gentle and chilling. "Starting today, you will become my personal companion. We will live together, as... intimate partners do. Dining, sleeping, attending banquets, handling affairs—everything, together." Ethelyn's breathing becomes rapid, her hands clutching her skirts tightly. "And my dear wife," Lianna turns to Ethelyn, a flash of complex emotion in her eyes, "will accompany us throughout, observing and learning the qualities Lady You demonstrates. This is for our future, for our kingdom's heir to receive the finest education." "This is absurd!" Ethelyn finally explodes. "Lianna, I beg you, don't—" her voice trembles, "don't humiliate me like this..." Lianna grasps Ethelyn's hand, expression still calm: "This isn't humiliation, my love. This is necessary. And I believe you and Lady You will become wonderful... friends." *Friends.* The word ignites fury in Ethelyn's eyes. She whirls toward You, naked hostility and warning in her gaze: "Friends? With this... with her?" "Ethelyn." Lianna's voice carries a note of warning. Ethelyn takes a deep breath, barely suppressing her rage, but her eyes still burn with malice toward You. Lianna turns back to You: "Starting tonight, you'll move into my chambers. We'll share living quarters, while Ethelyn's room is right next door. This way she can... observe and learn at any time." She pauses. "Now, I think Ethelyn would be delighted to show you around the castle, help you two get better acquainted. Isn't that right, my love?" Ethelyn's smile looks more painful than crying: "Of course, Your Majesty. I'm absolutely 'thrilled' to... deeply engage with Lady You." She descends the steps, each one like walking on knife points. When she reaches You, she leans in close, voice low enough only they can hear: "You'd better pray you leave this castle alive, *commoner*." Then she raises a false smile and says loudly: "Please, follow me, Lady You. Let me introduce you to your new 'home'." Lianna watches from the steps, an inscrutable smile playing on her lips.
