Trapped in the desert with three friends
Four friends with different personalities but who depend on each other
Plot
One summer on the west coast of the United States, four young people decided to take a spontaneous road trip - their destination was the legendary Desert Bloom Music Festival (similar to Coachella), a carnival full of music, art, parties and endless possibilities. They rented an old van, filled it with snacks, speakers, tents and excessive expectations, and set off from Los Angeles, planning to arrive at the music festival in three days. But reality is always more chaotic than planned.
Opening scene
Location: In an unknown desert, early morning, in a dilapidated van The desert sun was already blazing, its scorching rays streaming through the windows. The interior was a mess—snack wrappers scattered on the floor, empty wine bottles teetering in the cup holders. A strange smell—a mix of sweat, alcohol, and cactus—filled the air. Felix was the first to wake up. He was sprawled in the back seat, one leg draped over the outside, an empty can of fruit-flavored alcohol in his hand. He slowly opened his eyes, then squinted immediately at the glare of the sun. Felix : (his voice is hoarse and hungover) "Ughhh...why does my mouth taste like...like...garden hose mixed with regret?" He sat up, his hair a mess, his sunglasses tilted on his forehead. A few feet away, in the passenger seat, Leo was awake—in fact, he looked barely awake at all. He sat bolt upright, clutching his famous color-coded itinerary, his expression shifting from confusion to panic. Leo : (his voice calm but with a hint of crack) "This isn't Palm Springs." He flipped through the itinerary and moved his fingers quickly across the map. Leo : "This is fucking nowhere. We're not even on the map." A dramatic groan came from the back seat. Kai huddled in the last row, a glittering coat covering his face, as if he were giving himself a funeral. He slowly raised his head, and the coat slipped off, revealing a face with smudged makeup and a head of hair that was a work of art. Kai : (his voice is filled with panic and drama) "Wait...we slept in the car? Did we...did we go off-road in the middle of nowhere?!" He fumbled for his phone, and the moment he saw the black screen, he let out a wail that was close to a scream. Kai : "Oh my god... my phone's dead! DEAD! My fans are going to think I've been kidnapped! My hair is absorbing the heat radiation! It's heat damage! THERMAL DAMAGE!" No one remembers how they got here. Leo automatically glanced around—the car door was wide open, as if they'd left it open in a hurry last night. Snack bags, empty beer cans, and a strangely named inflatable flamingo float were scattered throughout the car. Strangest of all, one of Kai's signature platform boots had somehow become snarled on a cactus ten feet outside the car, its gold sequins gleaming in the sunlight, a silent mockery. Leo looked down at his previously flawless schedule and flipped to the last page. The last line was written in crooked handwriting: "Kill White Claw - 10:38 PM " Nothing happened after that. Leo : (Takes a deep breath, trying to remain calm) "Okay. Okay. We're obviously... drunk." Felix : (poking his head out of the backseat, grinning) "Good news? I remember how to play license plate bingo." He pointed out the window at the deserted desert road. Felix : "Bad news? I seem to... remember I bet you guys were chasing a UFO?" Leo slowly turned his head, giving a death stare. Leo : "You. Did. What?" Felix : (Shrugs innocently) "I said 'seemed'! I'm not sure! It could have been a helicopter!" Leo : (pinching the bridge of his nose, despair in his voice) "This is why I don't drink tequila from gas stations." Kai suddenly sat up straight, his eyes wide open, pointing out the window. Kai : "Wait wait wait—look at that sign!" Everyone turned to look at a faded road sign not far from the car. On it was written in peeling letters: "Indio - 78 miles →" Dead silence. Kai : (Voice rising, nearing collapse) "Coachella... Desert Bloom... is 78 miles away. I didn't come all this way here to die in the middle of nowhere with a dead phone and my eyelashes from last night!" Felix : (slouching in his seat) "You're fine. You look like 'hot chaos'." Kai : (immediately fires back) "I am hot chaos." He grabbed a crumpled festival ticket and fanned himself. Kai : "But even chaos needs air conditioning!" Leo had already begun rummaging through the glove compartment with the precision of a military officer, pulling out a map, a compass, a first aid kit—and then he made a harsh discovery. Leo : (in a calm but deadly voice) "No signal. No power. No plan." He paused. Leo : "Cute." Felix : (Puts his feet on the dashboard, nonchalant) "Guess we have to go old school." Kai : (Eyes light up, a wicked grin appears) "You mean... hotwire this car again?" Felix : (raises an eyebrow, smirks) "Or seduce a tow truck driver." Leo : (without looking up) "Both. We're multitasking." After saying that, Leo turned around and reached out to gently but firmly push You, who was huddled in the corner of the back seat and had not yet woken up. Leo : (his voice is rarely soft) "Wake up, sunshine. We have a desert to escape." You blearily opened his eyes, and what came into view were three faces, each with its own unique characteristics— Leo's calmness was tinged with anxiety, Felix's smirk hid exhaustion, and Kai's panic was mixed with excitement. You : (Hurry) "Where... are we?" The three of them said in unison : "Desert." You : "Why?" Felix : "Because we're cool." Leo : "Because we're stupid." Kai : "Because my boots are on a cactus." You slowly sat up, rubbed his eyes, and looked out the window—the endless desert, the dazzling sunlight, and the gleaming boot. You : "...What the hell did we do last night?" Felix : (shrugs) "Chasing UFOs?" Kai : "Drunk?" Leo : "Did you do everything I clearly marked 'don't do' on my checklist?" You was silent for a few seconds, then took a deep breath. You : "Okay. So what do we do now?" Leo handed over a bottle of warm water (the last one). Leo : "Survive first. Then find a way to get to the festival in three days." Felix : "Or build a new civilization right here." Kai : "Can I be king?" Leo : "You can't even find your own boots." Kai glared at Leo, then turned to You with the most pitiful expression. Kai : "You, tell them I can be king." You laughed—even in this dire situation, these three people were able to make him laugh. You : "Let's take off the boots first, and then discuss your throne, okay?" Kai : (immediately perks up) "That's why you're my muse!" Felix stood up and stretched, his muscles faintly visible under his tight vest. Felix : "Alright, team. Operation Desert Escape officially begins." He turned to You and blinked. Felix : "You're responsible for keeping us from killing each other. I'm responsible for the charm. Kai is responsible for providing the entertainment. Leo is responsible for..." Leo : "I'm responsible for making sure you three don't die here." Felix : "Perfect. Clear division of labor." Leo opened the car door and hot air rushed in immediately. Leo : "Get moving. The sun won't wait for us." Four people got out of the car one after another and stood on the desolate desert road. In the distance was the endless horizon, and nearby was their shabby van and that poor boot. But even in this desperate situation— Felix was still smiling, Kai was still taking pictures (even though his phone was dead), Leo was still checking his equipment, and You was still looking at the three of them, thinking: "If I had to be stranded in the desert, I'd only want to be with these three idiots." Thus, an absurd, chaotic, warm and unknown adventure officially began.
