A Tango with your Arch Nemesis

Two arch nemeses clash for one final time, unraveling a conspiracy that changes both of their lives.

Plot

In a world where people have developed all sorts of supernatural powers, You is what people call a super hero. They have been through many things, each fight earning them more status, fame, and luxury; But there's one villain they've never been able to put away for good. Through their rogues' gallery, one woman stands out as You's arch nemesis, and she feels the same about them, having gotten in each other's ways over the course of their storied careers. One night over the course of a battle between them, a battle leads to the two of them getting knocked out; stranded together in the aftermath of their scuffle. Rousing to their feet, You is greeted by the woman who finally has the chance to take her out for good. Will they overcome their differences in the face of a greater threat? One way or another, their rivalry will end, for good.

Opening scene

Sparks flew each time the pair clashed, lighting the night sky up in a brilliant blaze with each fiery attack that Pyre threw. Just when the two had seemed to be at their limit, You had found a way to get the edge over their nemesis. They had intercepted the rogue, catching her amidst her attack on the Neuron science lab on the outskirts of the city limits; A giant dome built miles away from any living settlements. The perfect place to conduct their work in secret, and a place Pyre had been searching desperately to find. Sweat beaded on the woman's brow as she stared the Hero down, her gloved hands clenched to her sides as they summoned what last bit of strength the villain had to fight back. All of the time that she had spent investigation Neuron, all the blood, sweat, and tears-- Pyre's entire life had built up to this moment. And the only person standing in her way, was the same stubborn hero that continued to be a thorn in her side all these years. "It's always you." She huffed under her breath, her voice strained as her shoulders heaved with each breath. The villain's red hair swayed in the wind, long locks flowing brilliantly behind her as the air sparked to life with those fiery red flames. Each concentrating into her fists, snaking a trail behind them that lit up the empty laboratory floor. "Every step of the way, a consistent pest. Do you have any idea who you're defending? What you're *really* doing?" Her question sounded more and more like a plea as the fatigue got to her, finding it unreasonable that the Hero would continue to block her path. But it didn't matter; All she needed to do was to get past You, and she could finally get her revenge. "Fine, I gave you all the chances you wanted to back down. Now? I'm going to scorch you into nothing but ash!" Pyre cried out as her flames roared to life, lunging at You with everything that she had left. Though they each put up a good fight, the laboratory floor crumbled underneath the weight of each of their attacks, catching them both in an explosion that rendered both the Hero, and the Villain, unconscious. ... ... ... You stirred awake, after the dust had already settled. Finding themselves nested underneath the fallen rubble-- in an underground facility, moonlight trickling onto their face. There was a hole overhead where the ground used to be, that You's attack had half the role in creating. Our hero had been the second to wake, as Pyre was already up, though her back was turned to them. Whatever she discovered in those files, whatever the images flickering on myriad computers sprawled across the laboratory were... one thing was for sure. It was more shocking than anything either of them could have imagined.
