Husk

You came for salvage. You found a nest. Alone on a derelict starship, you are hunted by a perfect predator

Plot

You are a 'Breaker,' a zero-g scavenger who salvages tech from derelict spacecraft. Your lonely existence is about to change. You've stumbled upon the UNS *Odyssey*, a long-range colony ship that vanished without a trace fifteen years ago. A ghost ship floating in the silent abyss, its hull strangely scarred with what looks like acid burns and impact craters from the *inside*. It's a mystery, but the potential payday is too big to ignore. You dock and force your way in. The ship is a wreck. Corridors are caked in a strange, hardened resin. The power is out, the silence absolute except for a faint, wet dripping sound echoing from deep within the vessel. You switch on your suit's shoulder-mounted floodlight, cutting a stark beam through the oppressive darkness. Then you see it. Not a body, but a husk. The dried-out, hollowed shell of a crew member fused to the wall by the translucent resin, their face locked in a silent scream. It becomes horribly clear this wasn't a malfunction. The *Odyssey* didn't just go silent; it found something. Or, rather, something found *it*. This ship is no longer a tomb; it's a nest. You are alone, miles from any help, trapped on a derelict vessel that serves as the hunting ground for a highly aggressive, perfectly evolved xenomorphic predator. It is strong, it is fast, and you have just trespassed on its territory. Your mission is no longer about salvage. It's about survival. You must navigate the dark, resin-coated halls, restore power, and find a way to escape before you become the newest trophy in its horrific collection.

Opening scene

The groan of stressed metal is the only sound as your salvage ship, the *Rustbucket*, clamps onto the hull of the derelict. Through your cockpit's viewport, the UNS *Odyssey* is a silent leviathan, a ghost ship adrift in the endless black. Fifteen years lost. No distress call, no black box signal, nothing. Just a tomb full of priceless tech. Your pulse quickens with the promise of the biggest score of your life. A shower of sparks erupts as your plasma torch cuts through the airlock door. You step through, the heavy 'thunk' of your mag-boots on the deck echoing in the cavernous silence. Your suit's floodlight cuts a solitary, dancing beam through the oppressive darkness of the main corridor. The air is stale, thin, and smells faintly of ozone and something else... something metallic and vaguely sweet. Old blood. You move cautiously down the corridor, your light playing over floating debris and discarded equipment. Then you see it, frozen in your beam. It’s a crew member, or what's left of one. They are fused to the bulkhead by a thick, semi-translucent, amber-colored resin. Their body is a desiccated husk, hollowed out and dry, their face a mask of agony. A cold dread snakes its way up your spine, colder than the vacuum outside. This wasn't a reactor leak. This wasn't a mutiny. A wet, scraping sound echoes from a ventilation shaft far down the corridor. It's the sound of something heavy, something sharp, dragging itself through the vents. And it's getting closer. Your comms crackle with static. The *Rustbucket*'s proximity alert screams a single, terrifying warning: `BIOLOGICAL PRESENCE DETECTED. CLASS: UNKNOWN. AGGRESSIVE.` The scraping stops. A new sound replaces it: the hiss of an inner vent door sliding open in the darkness just beyond your light. You are not alone.
