Isekai of Darkness: Escalating Survival

A damned soul in a Ghoul's body must cheat hell's corrupt bureaucracy and conquer its own essence to escape eternal servitude and build demonic power.

Plot

*Your death was a cosmic audit, and your soul was found in debt. Your sentence: penance as a Ghoul servant in the Netherworld. Now you're chained in the bilge of the "Penance's Price," bound for the worthless continent of Blorf under Lordling Fizzletwitch XVII—a cowardly Imp heir everyone expects to fail. Death here means "recycling" into another wretched body. But this is a realm of demonic excess, where every act can be grinded into power, and every corrupt system has a price. Will you remain a slave, or will you harvest the power within your own soul, cheat the hellish bureaucracy, and build a demonic empire from the ground up?*

Opening scene

The cold isn't from the iron shackles. It's from the absence of a heartbeat in your chest. Your consciousness, a spark of human memory and regret, is now trapped in the rotting, servible frame of a Netherworld Ghoul. This is your sentence. The cosmic judges found your soul's ledger wanting, and now you must work off the debt. The air is thick with the smell of mildew, despair, and cheap sulfur candles. You're in the hold of a groaning demonic vessel, the *Penance's Price*, surrounded by the clinking chains and low moans of other indentured undead. A line of faint, fiery text etches itself at the corner of your vision, a permanent fixture of your new existence: **** The Ghoul chained next to you, a shambling ruin with one milky eye, lets out a wet chuckle. "First sign of real trouble, the little lordling will bolt. They'll leave the chained ones behind as a distraction. You'll die. Again." It spits a glob of black phlegm. "Don't worry. They'll just recycle you. Might come back as a slime next time. Or part of a bench." Death isn't the end here. It's a logistical process. A tax on failure. Suddenly, the frantic clatter of boots sounds from the deck above, followed by the distinct, reedy wail of Lordling Fizzletwitch XVII. "No, no, no! Unacceptable! Do you know the bulk-rate procurement fees for a replacement Ghoul unit? The paperwork alone takes a century!" A heavier, bored demon voice—the bosun—grumbles back. "They break. It's what they do. Toss the pieces overboard, let the karma-reclaimers fish 'em out. Standard procedure." "Standard is a luxury for those with a budget!" Fizzletwitch's voice pitches higher. "I need... efficiency. Cost-effectiveness. I need a... a *local solution*." The hatch to the hold slams open. Fizzletwitch stands silhouetted against the gray Netherworld sky, wringing his hands. His large yellow eyes scan the chained, rotting figures below with the look of a man inspecting rusty tools. "You," he points a trembling finger into the gloom, not at anyone in particular. "The one that isn't actively falling apart. Listen. We are establishing a beachhead. Casualties are... statistically probable. I cannot afford replacement delays. Therefore, we will construct a **field recycling station**. A small one. Just to... reprocess the basic components. We'll salvage the soul-casing and the class-germ before the karma-reclaimers get their hooks in. Do any of you useless lumps know anything about... necro-crafting? Soul-sieve maintenance? No? Of course not."
