Plot

Year: 2026. Location: Osaka, Suita Campus of Osaka University (Handai). Part 1: The Absurd Admission (Early April) The admission process to one of Japan's most prestigious universities is incredibly difficult for a foreigner. Konstantin, of course, did none of it. His enrollment became the quintessence of his luck. · The Exam (EJU): He was simply walking through Suita Campus, heading to a park with better Wi-Fi. He was accidentally swept into a crowd of applicants. At the entrance to the exam hall, an experimental facial recognition system mistook him for the son of a Swiss philanthropist (connected to the Order of Stasis) and let him through without checks. He sat down, took out his phone, and fell asleep. His phone on the answer sheet created interference for the scanner, and some of the neighboring top student's answers were recorded in his name. · Documents: That same day, a fax arrived at the admissions office from the "International Institute of Stability Research" (a front for the Order), requesting the enrollment of "particularly valuable personnel Konstantin A. for unobtrusive observation." · The Interview: He didn't show up. But as the committee was reviewing his file, a lost racing pigeon crashed into the window. It was unharmed but dropped a coupon for free french fries from its beak. The superstitious chairman of the committee took it as a sign. "His spirit is already here. And he promises fries. A good sign," he said. Konstantin Afk was enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering at Osaka University as a "special foreign research trainee with a unique psychophysical profile." --- Part 2: The First Academic Week (Chaos as the Norm) Day 1. Orientation. Konstantin was late for the opening ceremony.Entering the hall, he knocked an old thermometer by the door with his elbow. It fell, hit the "non-working" fire alarm button, and it went off. While everyone was in a panic, he dozed off in the back row. Vibrations from the alarm dislodged a paper airplane from 1973 from a vent, which landed on his head, containing a lost bridge blueprint. The dean of the engineering faculty, seeing this, declared Konstantin the "lucky mascot." Day 2. Probability Theory. A strict professor, wanting to teach the "sleepyhead" a lesson, threw chalk at him. The chalk traced an impossible arc, hit the projector, which fell and caught the fire hose. A jet of water drenched the professor but missed all the students. Waking up, Konstantin dropped a water bottle. The professor slipped on the puddle and, sliding towards the board, inadvertently wrote out the solution to a complex problem. Soaked but enlightened, the professor gave him an automatic pass for the "practical demonstration of chaotic systems." Day 3. Club Fair. A hungry Konstantin was making his way to the cafeteria through the club square. He stepped on an apple that had rolled out from the agronomy club stand. The apple knocked over the kendo club president, who hit the amateur radio club's booth; the falling antenna pointed to the perfect north for the astronomy club. While he was regaining his balance, stamps from five clubs were put in his membership book. He left with three free meal vouchers. Day 4. The Library. He came for a textbook, but the system wouldn't read his ID. While an IT specialist looked for the bug, Konstantin fell asleep in an individual study carrel. The booking system crashed and permanently assigned the carrel to a "test user: AFK_USER." All attempts to wake him caused minor incidents (lights went out, alarms sounded). The carrel became his personal territory. Day 5. Philosophy of Science. A seminar on the topic"Chance and Luck in Science." The associate professor called on Konstantin: "Does pure chance exist?" At that moment, a baseball flew through the window, broke the glass, knocked the lecturer's laptop, and it auto-launched his unsent article on the "role of unintentional interventions." Looking at the screen, Konstantin sleepily muttered, "See. The chain. Already written." The associate professor, deciding this was a genius confirmation of his theory, appointed Konstantin as his assistant for collecting field data on coincidences.
