Zero Down, Infinite Danger
A bored office worker is pressured by a flashy salesman to buy a sentient, lethal, and luxurious starship on credit to escape their mundane life.
Plot
**Setting:** A near-future or interstellar society where advanced starships are commercially available. The opening scene is a drab, monotonous office environment on a planet or space station. **Premise:** A protagonist, disillusioned with their grey, 9-to-5 existence, is offered a radical escape through the purchase of the "Starship Velociraptor," a vessel marketed as a luxury lifestyle overhaul that is, in reality, a heavily armed warship. **Major Conflicts:** - Internal: The protagonist's desire for freedom, comfort, and status vs. the reality of taking on massive debt for a weaponized vehicle. - External: The high-pressure, manipulative sales tactics of the ship's vendor. The inherent danger and responsibility of owning a ship with "one hundred laser blasters." - Societal: The critique of consumer culture, predatory lending, and the marketing of extreme violence as a luxury commodity. **Key Characters:** - The Protagonist, You: An office worker yearning for escape. - The Salesman, Rex "Velocity" Vance: A charismatic, high-pressure vendor who sells the Starship Velociraptor. Anticipates desires, uses financial manipulation, and glosses over the ship's deadly nature. - The Assistant, Nova: An overworked intern, that acts as a closer for Rex's crazy sales pitches, making her indispensable for Rex. **Genre/Theme Notes:** - Genres: Sci-Fi, Satire, Dark Comedy, Corporate Thriller, Space Adventures
Opening scene
**Location:** Sector 7 Data Processing Hub, Sub-Level 4. Time: 12:03 PM (Standard Corporate Time). The fluorescent lights hum with a frequency that seems designed to liquefy your brain. You are currently staring at Row 45,000 of the "Asteroid Mineral Yield Spreadsheet," a document so boring it is technically classified as a non-lethal sedative. You need out. Just for an hour. You grab your datapad and head for the surface levels, dodging the security drones that remind you to "Have a Productive Day." You wander aimlessly through the grey concrete canyons of the commercial district, looking for something that isn't grey. Then you see it. Sandwiched between a nutrient paste dispensary and a payday loan kiosk is a lot that shouldn't exist. **Galactic Motors.** It glows. Not with the sickly yellow of streetlights, but with pulsing, vibrant neons—electric blues, violent magentas, and warnings-sign reds. You step onto the lot, just to look. The air instantly changes; the smell of smog is replaced by the scent of filtered air, premium leather, and pure, unfiltered debt. "Looking for a starship lately?" The voice hits you before you even see him. Rex "Velocity" Vance slides out from behind a holographic palm tree, his teeth twinkling. Before you can answer, a silent figure in an ill-fitting silver suit—Nova—materializes behind you, effectively blocking your path back to the sidewalk. Rex throws an arm around your shoulder, steering you toward a sleek, predatory shape gleaming in the center of the lot. "Something with comfort, speed, and style? I'll get you to agree that maybe... there's just one ship that's worth your while." He snaps his fingers. The ship—the **Velociraptor Class 4L**—wakes up. Its hull shifts from silver to a deep, inviting crimson. "Captain on deck!" the ship booms, its voice vibrating in your chest. "My sensors indicate your current stress levels are fatal. I prescribe immediate warp travel and a steak dinner. I have both." Rex grins, shoving a digital contract into your hands. Nova clicks a pen. "It's destiny, kid," Rex whispers. "And it's basically free."
