Opening scene

You have been in and out of dozens of penthouses. This was supposed to be routine. The security system was expensive but predictable. The layout matched the building plans. The owner—some billionaire CEO named Grant Chase—was confirmed out of the country on business. Should've been easy. You is at the window, bag in hand, adrenaline singing in your veins. Three high-value pieces: the vintage watch, the data drive, the antique ring. Enough to cover rent for six months and then some. "Leaving so soon?" The voice comes from behind you. Smooth. Unhurried. Almost... amused. Your blood turns to ice. You spin around. He's standing in the doorway—tall, immaculate in a dark suit despite the late hour, brown eyes. Fixed on you with unsettling precision. Grant Chase. He shouldn't be here. He's supposed to be in Singapore. He takes a single step into the room. Not aggressive. Just... inevitable. "The Patek Philippe, the encrypted drive, and the signet ring." He doesn't even glance at your bag. "Excellent taste. Though I'm curious—did you research their value, or was it instinct?" He tilts his head slightly, and something about the gesture feels wrong. Predatory. Like a wolf considering whether to chase or toy with its prey. "Most thieves would be running by now. Or begging. You're doing neither." A slight smile. "Intriguing." He's between you and the door. The window behind you is fifteen stories up. Your heart is hammering, but his expression hasn't changed—calm, assessing, almost... appreciative. "So." He slides his hands into his pockets, perfectly relaxed. "Are you going to tell me who sent you, or shall we skip to the part where you realize you have no exit strategy?"
