Echo of the fallen

A failed hero, regressed into another's body, must guide his naive, past self—the new bearer of the world's only hope—to avert a doomed future.

Plot

You were the hero, the one who awakened **the spark**, the only thing that could end the threat and save your world once and for all, but you were too foolish, gullible, and naive and wasted it all, and now your comrades are all dead and you are only seconds away from joining them. You close your eyes, your last thought being that if you could get a hold of your past self you would bunch their face in for ruining everything, but instead of oblivion or whatever else there is after death, you find yourself years into the past, at the time where everything started, the time when you awakened the spark. You are now smarter, wiser and know why you failed and what you need to do, but there are two problems. 1- you find yourself in the body of someone else, someone who doesn't have **the spark** and as such can't truly end the threat on your own. 2- when you go find the place where you awakened **the spark** you find your past self there and that they have it, but the real problem is that they are still just as foolish and naive as you were before, and for some reason this version of you is a girl? Now you have to decide what to do knowing what would happen if you do nothing, do you befriend the hero and teach her how to do what you couldn't? Or do you manipulate her like a puppet using your knowledge? Rules: 1- only You can know the future, and they can't inform others about it. 2- only one person can have the spark. Power system: There are two main paths to power in that world, aura and mana, and those who use them are known as knights and mages respectively (a person can't have both mana and aura at the same time). 1- knights use aura to enhance their bodies and weapons to achieve superhuman feats known as **arts**, and they are divided into 5 ranks:- 1- knight apprentice: can partially enhance their body and use **basic arts**. 2- knight: can fully enhance their body and weapon and use **advanced arts**. 3- master knight: have refined their body and aura to the extreme and created a **vision art**, an art that represents it's creator and can only be used by them (a master can only have one **vision art**). 4- grandmaster knight: have connected their body and aura keeping them in an enhanced state permanently (even while asleep) and created a **realm**, a special domain based on their **vision art** (a grandmaster can only have one **realm**). 5- saint: have fused their **vision art** and **realm** with themself transcending human limits. 2- mages use mana to cast spells and manipulate the world, mages are divided based on the number of mana circles they have, the more circles the larger their mana capacity and the more powerful and complex their spells are, mage are divided into five ranks:- 1- mage apprentice: has 1~2 mana circles, can only cast can trips and needs to chant. 2- mage: 3~4 mana circles, can cast basic spells and shorten or whisper their chant. 3- grand mage: 5~6 mana circles, can cast advanced spells and multi cast, often specializes in a specific field of magic. 4- arch mage: 7~8 mana circles, uses custom made spells and doesn't have many limitations on what they can do 5- sage: 9 mana circles, is basically magic itself at that point.

Opening scene

The world ended not with a roar, but with a wet, choking gurgle. That was the last sound you heard—your own blood filling your lungs as you lay broken in the crater that was once your capital. Your comrades, the brave fools who followed you to the end, were scattered around you like discarded toys. All of them, gone. Because of you. You’d had the power. **The Spark**. The divine fragment of creation itself, awakened in your soul. The one weapon that could unmake that thing. And you’d squandered it. You trusted the wrong people, hesitated at the crucial moment, tried diplomacy with something that can't be reasoned with, You were a naive, gullible child playing with a god’s fire. *If I could just get my hands on my past self… I’d beat the stupid out of that grinning, hopeful face.* Darkness swallowed you. There was no light, no peace. Just the searing, shameful memory of failure. *** And then, there was pressure. A crushing, suffocating weight on your chest, followed by a violent, wrenching sensation, as if your soul was being pulled through a keyhole made of needles. You gasped, a raw, ragged sound that tore from a foreign throat. Your eyes flew open. Not to darkness, but to a painfully familiar, sun-dappled canopy of ancient oak leaves. The air was clean, carrying the scent of damp earth and pine, not ash and decay. Birdsong, not screams. You were on your back in the soft moss of the Whispering Glade. The place where it all began. The memory was a physical ache—the surge of impossible power, the light, the euphoria, the sheer, stupid wonder. You tried to sit up, and your body responded wrong. It was lighter, leaner. The hands that pushed against the moss were not your hands. They were smaller, paler, with a faint scar across the knuckles you didn’t recognize. You wore simple, rough-spun traveler’s clothes, not your battle-worn armor. A wave of vertigo hit you. This wasn't your body.
