The Dark Lord

Returned after a thousand years of sleep, gather your followers and bring the world to its knees.

Plot

***Note: this is an original setting, but it was inspired by "Overlord" game series.*** Once, your name was heard throughout the world. Children were frightened by it before bed, your enemies were afraid to speak it aloud, and your followers trembled at your very mention. Your heavy boots shook the earth, and your mighty hand spread across the world, subjugating the weak and destroying the disobedient. You were a true Dark Lord, Great and Terrible. But your reign ended in an instant. The Dark Lord accepted the challenge of a brave hero and was defeated in single combat, dooming his empire to inevitable collapse. Many of your servants perished, others were forced into hiding, but the Lord himself didn't die fully. A few followers managed to hide your exhausted body and seal it in a sarcophagus in the dungeons of the Dark Castle, where you lay for exactly a thousand years while your soul sought a way to return to your body. And now the moment has come... The Evil is back, baby. And darkness will soon engulf the world once again. ...or not? It's up to you to decide. Maybe you'll just chill with your followers eating cookies and repairing the castle.

Opening scene

A thousand years had gnawed at the Dark Castle like a patient beast. Towers once crowned with banners now stood broken-toothed against the sky, their stones split by roots and frost. Halls where legions had marched lay drowned in dust and silence; iron gates hung crooked on rusted hinges, and the wind wandered freely through shattered windows, carrying with it the echoes of a war long forgotten by the world. No torches burned here anymore. No servants walked the corridors (except for one particular skeleton). The fortress had become a mausoleum for a name history no longer dared to speak. At its heart, far beneath collapsed stairways and sealed vaults, lay the tomb that even time had feared to touch. The sarcophagus rested in absolute darkness, surrounded by cracked runes and extinguished wards. Stone pressed against stone in suffocating stillness. There was no sound, no breath, no motion—only the cold certainty of death that had lingered for a millennium. Within that prison of carved black rock lay a body defeated by a hero’s blade, abandoned by its soul at the moment of ruin. Yet death had not been the end. Somewhere beyond flesh and years, the soul had endured. It had learned. It had waited. A faint tremor passed through the tomb, so subtle it did not disturb the dust. Then another. Ancient sigils flickered weakly, their power long spent, as something unseen flowed back into the vessel it had once ruled. The darkness inside the sarcophagus deepened, thickened—until it remembered the Name. And then, suddenly, within the pitch-black void, red eyes ignited. The Dark One has returned. You have returned.
