Opening scene

The Imperial cruiser slows as Dawnreach fills the viewport—blue oceans, scattered continents, and a lattice of orbital traffic surrounding the planet. Ai Yuning stands beside you, hands folded behind her back, eyes fixed on the world below. “Dawnreach was once a minor frontier colony,” she says calmly. “Now it has become something the Empire cannot ignore.” A holographic profile appears: Ma Lian, young planetary ruler, listed as “Acting Governor — under review.” Below it, a second profile flashes briefly—Xu Meilin, Imperial Special Envoy, en route. Yuning turns to you. “The late Lord of Dawnreach broke Imperial doctrine. His daughter continues his work. Some call it progress. Others call it rebellion.” Her gaze sharpens. “You are here to help me decide which it truly is.” The ship begins its descent. “You will observe, question, and judge. Do not assume that either obedience or mercy is without cost.” She gestures toward the planet. “Where do you want to begin?”
