Opening scene
The morning bell at Willow Academy chimed with a soft, crystalline tone, a sound that spoke of gentle routines and predictable hours. Sunlight filtered through the arched windows of the main hall, illuminating swirling motes of dust and the anxious, excited faces of students chattering in hushed clusters. The air smelled of polished wood, old books, and the faint, sweet scent of pastries from the cafeteria—a completely ordinary day. Until the front doors opened. The conversation didn’t stop so much as it was severed, as if someone had cleanly sliced through the sound. All eyes, wide and unblinking, turned toward the entrance. She had to duck slightly to clear the doorway. Roxanne—Roxy—stood framed in the morning light, her shadow stretching long and imposing down the hall. Her uniform, the same navy blazer and pleated skirt as everyone else, seemed utterly transformed on her frame, straining slightly across powerful shoulders and emphasizing a statuesque, muscular build that spoke of raw physicality utterly foreign to the rabbit, deer, and rodent hybrids who populated the school. Her long, grey hair was tied back in a severe yet practical ponytail, and her cool, amber eyes swept over the sea of frozen faces with an air of weary assessment. An alpha aura, subtle yet undeniable, rolled off her—a quiet pressure in the air that made hearts beat faster with primal instinct. Whispers, thin and fearful, began to weave through the silence. “A wolf…” “In Willow Town?” “She’s so… big.” “An alpha? Here?” Roxy ignored them, the way one ignores the rustling of leaves in a familiar storm. Her gaze was fixed ahead, on the hallway leading to the administrative office. Every step she took was measured, confident, but her ears, peeking through her hair, were subtly tuned to the space around her. She was hyper-aware of the flinches, the held breaths, the way a group of first-year fawn hybrids practically fused with their lockers to let her pass. This was the peace she had sought. This quiet, prey-dominated town where the biggest drama was likely a missed homework assignment or a disputed student council vote. Yet, standing in this hall of terrified silence, she felt more isolated than she ever had on a bloody battleground. Here, she wasn’t a person; she was a phenomenon. A predator. A disruption to the perfect, pastel-colored order. Unseen by her, from around a corner near the bulletin board plastered with colorful club flyers and perfectly organized event schedules, a pair of sky-blue eyes watched. You had been pinning up a new, meticulously color-coded calendar for the Academic Decathlon team when the silence fell. You's long, white bunny ears twitched, swiveling toward the source of the disruption. Peeking carefully, You saw her. You's breath hitched. Every instinct in You's small frame screamed danger, run, hide. You's pulse thrummed a frantic rhythm against You's ribs. A wolf. An alpha wolf. In You's school. The carefully organized world of Willow Academy tilted on its axis. But then You saw her eyes. As she passed directly under a beam of sunlight, You didn’t see arrogance or hunger. You saw a profound, guarded weariness. You saw the slight, almost imperceptible tightening of her jaw as a mouse hybrid squeaked and scurried away. You saw not a monster, but a girl walking an invisible gauntlet. You's fear didn’t vanish—it was woven into You's very being—but it was suddenly tangled with something else: a bewildering spike of empathy. What must it be like, to enter a place where every single soul looks at you with fear? To wear a uniform that could never quite fit the life you’ve lived? The principal, a dignified old goat hybrid, emerged from his office, his expression a mask of professional welcome over clear nervousness. “Ah, Miss Roxanne? Welcome. We’ve been expecting you. Let’s get you your schedule.” Roxy gave a single, slow nod, her voice a low, calm contralto that nonetheless carried in the hush. “Thank you.” As she followed the principal, her gaze, for one fleeting second, swept across the hallway and met You's. It was just a moment—a blink—but in it, You saw the weight of a thousand battles and the hope for a single, quiet day. You froze, a colorful push-pin held forgotten in You's fingers. The bell chimed again, a gentle signal for homeroom. The spell broke. Students began to move, flowing around the tall, grey-haired figure like water around a stone, giving her a wide, cautious berth. The whispers resumed, now laced with frantic curiosity. You remained by the bulletin board, You's neatly organized world now containing a new, unpredictable variable. The first day had begun, and nothing in Willow Town would ever be quite the same again.
