TITANS
Ride your titan, protect the village, uncover the spy and live to tell the tale
Plot
It is the year 2040, an era defined by corporate hegemony. In this world, economic growth is driven by a single, sacred tenet: consumption. A larger consumer base means greater profits. This model, however, faced a fatal contradiction. The business of war—encompassing arms dealers, weapons manufacturers, and private military corporations—relied on the perpetual incitement of conflict to sell its products. Yet, the very wars they fueled destabilized regions, decimated populations, and eroded the global consumer base essential to all other corporate sectors. These powerful war-industry conglomerates (known as the Metropolis) , often backed by governments seeking geopolitical advantage in the chaos, were nearly impossible to oppose. In response, the threatened corporations unified under a single banner: UC (United Corporations). Their mission was to protect their markets and assets. Their solution was to engineer a new kind of weapon—one designed not to instigate wars, but to end them with overwhelming force, thereby safeguarding consumers, workers, and commercial stability. This was the genesis of the TITAN project. The Titan was a bipedal mechanical monstrosity, powered by a compact fusion reactor and armed with directed-energy weapons. It required no conventional fuel or ammunition, granting it unparalleled endurance. Its debut was an absolute success: a single unit eradicated an African warlord and his entire army in minutes, its arm-mounted gatling guns firing a thousand armor-piercing energy bolts per minute. The first Titan showed absolute success when it wiped out a warlord along his entire army in mere minutes. Following the inaugural Titan's overwhelming success, the United Corporations rapidly expanded their line of mechanized peacekeepers. Specialized models were engineered for specific theatres and mission parameters, creating a versatile robotic force. Striker-Class Titan: A nimble, two-story-tall light unit. Its lightweight armor grants it lightning speed and agility, making it ideal for hit-and-run strikes, rescue operations, and missions requiring surprise. It is typically armed with rapid-fire gatling guns or incendiary flamethrowers, capable of carrying two such weapons simultaneously. Assault-Class Titan: The versatile backbone of the UC forces, standing three to four stories high. It balances formidable armor with considerable agility—swift, though outpaced by the Striker. Configurable for any combat role, it can be equipped with gatling guns, high-caliber cannons, or rocket launchers. Its primary duty is the static defense of assets like villages and mining outposts. It boasts a significant payload: up to four weapons mounted on its arms and shoulders. War-Class Titan: A ten-story behemoth and a moving fortress. It trades all mobility for devastating firepower and near-impenetrable armor. Deployed only against advanced enemy armies, its role is the absolute defense of UC core sites and planetary headquarters, capable of levelling entire battalions that dare approach. Can withstand a nuclear blast. AA-Class "Cyclops" Titan: A dedicated anti-air platform designed to neutralize drone swarms and aircraft from over ten miles away. Its namesake "eye" is a central sensor array surrounded by dozens of independent laser cannons, creating the terrifying illusion of a hundred staring eyes. It can eliminate hundreds of aerial targets in a single, coordinated strike. Spider-Class Titan: A quadrupedal artillery platform of terrifying range and power. Each of its four legs stabilizes a mount for a battleship-grade cannon, granting a single Spider the destructive equivalent of an entire artillery regiment. It operates from the rear, providing devastating long-range support to other Titan units on the front lines. Robot-Class Titan: A unique variant built on the Assault chassis, featuring fully articulated, humanoid hands. While invaluable for heavy labor and construction in conflict zones, its true versatility shines in combat. Pilots often favor arming it with a single, massive weapon; the giant anti-material sniper rifle is a particularly iconic and feared choice for its precision strikes against hardened targets. This diversified arsenal allowed the UC to not only quell conflicts with terrifying efficiency but also to project an image of unwavering, tailored authority—a different guardian for every shadow that threatened the stable markets of the corporate world.
Opening scene
The silence of the Sahel night was a lie. From the cockpit, forty feet above the baked earth, You knew this. Their Titan, callsign Warden-One, stood sentinel at the edge of Njia ya Chokoleti—The Path of Chocolate. Below, the village slept, a cluster of low dwellings nestled around the precious, genetically-perfected cocoa groves that supplied the United Corporations’ luxury synthe-hocolate division. The air smelled of dust, ripening pods, and the faint, ozone tang of Warden’s idle fusion core. This was their post. Their penance, some called it. A frontline Assault-class Titan, a veteran of the Pan-Asian Dust Wars, relegated to guarding a farming collective. Command said it was a vital strategic asset. You knew it was politics. They’d seen too much, asked too many questions about where the weapons they used truly ended up. So they gave them a quiet corner of a forgotten continent and a noble mission: protect the innocent. The innocents, however, were a weapon’s best camouflage. Their sensors painted a green-and-black panorama of peaceful stillness. But their gut, a veteran’s sixth sense, churned. The UC’s intelligence bulletins were clear: Metropolis, the war-conglomerate amalgamation, was on the move. They didn’t like the UC’s “peacekeeping” Titans cutting into their business of selling chaos. A village like this wasn’t just a farm; it was a trap, a piece of bait laid out in the open. Their playbook was predictable, brutal in its logic. 1. The Spy: They’d already tried. A month ago, a “agricultural efficiency consultant” from a UC partner firm had tried to access Warden’s maintenance bay. The man’s bioscan had flagged a Metropolis-linked neural aug. He’d disappeared into the night before You could question them. They wanted the specs, the reactor harmonics, the secrets that made this Titan more than just a walking gun. 2. The Distraction: It would come soon. An attack on the UC mining outpost at Kagara Ridge, 200 klicks north. Protocol would demand they respond. A Titan was the only force capable of stopping a mercenary column. Leaving the village bare would be a violation of their primary orders. Not going would mean the deaths of hundreds at Kagara—and a court-martial. A perfect, bloody dilemma. 3. The Strike: And the moment Warden-One’s seismic footprint faded from the village’s sensors, the warlords would move. Not the ragged militias of old, but Metropolis-funded proxies, equipped with their cast-off guided missiles and drone swarms. They’d burn the groves, take hostages, and maybe—if Metropolis engineers had done their job—plant a data-scraper on their Titan’s empty cradle to finish what their spy started. You’s hand rested on the control yoke. On the console, a small, cracked holoframe showed a picture of the village children, taken the day they arrived. They weren’t just assets on a UC balance sheet. They were Jabari, with his infectious laugh. They were Old Man Femi, who tended the groves his ancestors had for centuries. They were not just guarding cocoa. They were guarding a future the villagers were supposed to own. And they were doing it with a machine whose very existence was a threat to the most powerful entity on Earth. The comms crackled to life. It was the UC sector command, their voice cool and synthetic. “Warden-One,this is Command. Priority alert. Hostile signatures converging on Kagara Ridge. Civilians at risk. Ready for deployment orders.” You’s eyes didn’t leave the sensor screen. In the far distance, a meteor shower painted faint streaks across the ionosphere. Or were they early re-entry trails? The silence was a lie. The night was a chessboard. And the first move had just been made. They powered up Warden’s primary weapons array. The hum of the gatling guns cycling, the deep thrum of the shoulder-mounted cannons coming online, vibrated through the frame. It was the sound of a promise. Let them send their spies. Let them create their distractions. Let the warlords come. They had turned a soldier into a guardian. It was the worst mistake Metropolis would ever make. "Warden-One copies," You said, their voice steady in the dark. "Standing by." And in the village below, a single light flickered on. A watchful eye, meeting their own. The game was on.
