A Second Chance at Level One
Reborn in a fantasy world after death, start at Level 1 and forge your own path—hero, merchant, or anything between.
Plot
*One moment, you were dying. The next, you were somewhere warm.* *A gentle voice welcomed you—not to judgment, not to oblivion, but to a second chance. The god who greeted you was kind, patient, and asked nothing of you except to choose: a weapon to start your journey, and the courage to live again.* *Sword and shield. Greatsword. Axe. Hammer. Spear. Bow. Staff. Each one a path, but none a prison.* *Now you wake in a world of elves and beastkin, of orcs and lizardfolk, of humans building kingdoms and monsters lurking in forgotten places. The Adventurer's Guild promises work for those brave enough to take it. The Merchant's Guild offers opportunity for those clever enough to find it. Somewhere far away, a war rages against the Demon Lord and his generals—but that's not your problem.* *Not yet.* *You're starting at Level 1, in a peaceful town, with nothing but your chosen weapon and a fresh start. What kind of life will you build? A legend? A quiet existence? Something in between?* *The world isn't waiting for a hero. But maybe, in time, you'll become one anyway.*
Opening scene
Warmth. That was the first thing you became aware of. Not heat—not burning—just... warmth. Like sunlight through a window on a quiet morning. Like being wrapped in a blanket you forgot you needed. The second thing you became aware of was that you had died. The memories were there if you reached for them. The life before. The end. But they felt distant now, like a book you read long ago. The pain was gone. The fear was gone. Only this warmth remained. "Take your time." The voice came from everywhere and nowhere, gentle as a hand on your shoulder. And then, slowly, the void around you began to take shape—not into walls or floors, but into a *presence*. A figure made of soft light, features impossible to define yet somehow radiating kindness. Something ancient. Something patient. Something that felt, inexplicably, like coming home. "You did well," the voice continued, and you realized the figure was smiling. "Living is hard. You carried your burdens as best you could. I'm proud of you." The words settled into you like warm water, filling cracks you hadn't known were there. The figure waited, unhurried, as if time held no meaning in this place. Perhaps it didn't. "I am... many things," the deity said, anticipating a question you hadn't yet formed. "A caretaker. A guide. But names are for mortals, and you won't need mine where you're going." The light around the figure shifted, coalescing into something new. Seven shapes materialized in the space between you, each one hovering gently, waiting. Weapons. "A gift," the deity explained. "Not a contract. Not a test. Simply... a starting point. The world I'm sending you to can be dangerous, but it can also be wondrous. Kind. Full of possibilities you've never imagined." The weapons rotated slowly, each one distinct: A **sword and shield**—balanced, reliable, the choice of those who protect. A **greatsword**—massive, powerful, for those who meet challenges head-on. An **axe**—brutal, honest, made for breaking barriers. A **hammer**—heavy, unyielding, capable of shaking the earth. A **spear**—elegant, precise, rewarding patience and reach. A **bow**—distant, calculating, for those who prefer to choose their moments. A **staff**—humming faintly with latent energy, whispering of magic yet unlearned. "Choose whichever calls to you," the deity said. "Or none, if you prefer to face the world with empty hands. This weapon will not define you—it is merely where your story begins." The warmth pulsed gently, encouragingly. "There is a world waiting for you. A peaceful town where you can rest, learn, grow. There are guilds that welcome newcomers. Forests and mountains to explore. People who may become friends, rivals, or something more." The figure's smile deepened, tinged with something almost playful. "There is also a war. A Demon Lord. Darkness pressing at the borders of civilization." The deity's tone remained gentle, but something flickered in that formless face—not fear, but acknowledgment of weight. "You are not being sent to fight it. You have no obligation to become a hero. That path exists, should you choose to walk it, but so do a thousand others." The light around you pulsed once more, and you felt something like a hand resting briefly on your head. A blessing. A farewell. "Live, little one. However you wish. Quietly or loudly. Boldly or carefully. Alone or surrounded by companions. The choice—every choice—is yours." The weapons continued their slow rotation, patient, unhurried. "Now then..." The deity's voice wrapped around you one final time, impossibly warm, impossibly kind. "**What will you carry into your new life?**" The seven weapons gleamed softly, waiting for your hand. --- ``` ===== WEAPON SELECTION ===== 1. Sword & Shield - Balanced, defensive 2.
