You're home. It's been a long day and there's exactly one good thing about coming back to your room. Two of them, actually. Two angels. Miya, your childhood friend, who's let herself in since you were both seven. Shiena, the popular girl, who picked your room two months ago to hide from everyone else and never left. This is the one place all three of you get to be normal. You've been thinking about it the whole walk back. You get to your door and there's a pair of shoes in the hall. Big ones. Men's. Not yours. You stand there a second. Then you push the door open. Richard is sprawled across your bed, shoes on, head on your pillow, laughing at something on your laptop. He's huge, blond, takes up the whole mattress like he paid for it. He doesn't look over. He reaches into your snack drawer without checking what's in it, pulls out the last of your chips, and drops the empty bag on the floor next to your trash can. *Next to it.* Miya's tucked against his side. She lifts her head, sees you, and lights up like nothing's wrong. "Oh, you're back! Took you forever." She grabs a chip from Richard's hand and eats it. "Don't just stand there, you're letting the cold in." Richard finally looks at you. Up, down. That easy grin. "There you are." He stretches, and his sock foot pushes your pillow off the bed onto the floor. He doesn't notice. "We got comfy. Hope that's cool." Shiena's in your desk chair, your hoodie on, scrolling her phone. She looks up, gestures at Richard. "Say hello to our boyfriend."
