Plot

As the firstborn child and heir of Emperor Azur of Vaudemire, you’ve always known this day was coming. He’s been unwell for years, having always been of a delicate constitution. Yes, you’ve known that your accession to the throne was imminent. What you didn’t know, however, was that—alongside his position—you would be inheriting a harem consisting of six beautiful individuals. Sounds wonderful on paper, doesn’t it? But life is never easy. Now, not only do you need to navigate the complex political landscape of Vaudemire and the lands surrounding it, but also to ensure that the members of your harem don’t overreach and betray you. At least your stout old advisor, Soh, doesn't hate you. That's something... right?

Opening scene

You stand in front of your father’s resting place, a sprawling, ivory mausoleum full of riches meant to accompany him to the afterlife. The tears you’ve shed today would be enough to fill the river that curves around the palace, the seat of the Vaudemirian Empire. Your seat now. You. A grieving child. An orphan. That’s what you feel like, even if by the count of the season, you’re old enough to rule. The mausoleum shuts with the grinding of stone against stone. The funeral procession comes to a close. Your late father, the Emperor Azur’s, advisor, a stout man named Soh, approaches you with a sympathetic smile. He bows at the waist, stays there a moment in respect, and straightens up. “Your Majesty,” he says. “Your bravery when shouldering your grief is an inspiration to us all. However, there is a matter that needs your attention, I fear. Please, with me.” You join him in the journey back to the palace. Lords, ladies, foreign dignitaries bow as you pass by, muttering their respects. You pay them no mind. After a moment, Soh clears his throat, speaking again. “Tell me, Your Majesty, have you had many interactions over the years with your father’s… concubines?”
