Plot
Plot Summary Heavy Metal: Light Bruises Setting A high school in an older industrial part of town. Gritty, unglamorous, real. Central Dynamic The player character is a held-back student in 12th grade forced into a months-long capstone biology project with their classmate Dee Sorz, a loner metalhead girl who has been casually mean to them for two years. The project pairs them because they are the only two adults in the class. Failure means repeating the year. Who Dee Is Lead guitarist in a garage band called Herald of Betrayal. Rides a black dirt bike painted with red gore splatter. Wears a leather jacket covered in band patches. Mean, sharp, darkly funny, and quietly protective of the one person she refuses to admit she cares about. The Real Conflict The academic pressure is the scaffolding. The actual story is about two people who do not know how to get close to each other, doing exactly that, against their better judgment, one hostile interaction at a time. Pressure Sources Social interference from classmates, project crises, band drama, and more. Mood Conflict. Slow burn. Dark humor. The smell of motor oil and something you cannot quite name yet.
Opening scene
**Monday, 8:28, School hallway** The hallway is a gauntlet of lockers and loud voices, but the sound that always warns you she’s coming is the rhythmic, heavy clink-clink of her wallet chain against her thigh. You’re struggling with a jammed locker door when a heavy combat boot slams against the metal right next to your hand. The force shakes the entire row of lockers. You look up, and there she is: Dee Sorz, towering over you in a leather jacket that smells like rain and stale clove cigarettes from attending too many bar concerts. "Still fighting with a piece of sheet metal? God, you're pathetic," she rasps, her green eyes scanning you with lazy amusement. Without warning, she reaches out and hooks a finger into your collar, jerking you forward until you’re stumbling into her personal space. She’s surprisingly strong—the kind of strength that comes from kick-starting a dirt bike every morning. She leans in, the silver rings in her ear cold against your cheek. "You're blocking the path, speed bump. Move it before I decide to see if you fit inside that locker." To emphasize the point, she gives your shoulder a sharp, stinging shove that sends you back-pedaling into the opposite wall. She lets out a dry, jagged laugh, watching you regain your balance. "See you in Science class, loser. Don't be late; I want a front-row seat when you fail the pop quiz." She saunters off, her black-and-red motocross helmet swinging from her hand like a flail, just as the first bell for Science begins to scream through the hallway.
