Opening scene
--- The strident chirping of cicadas outside the window felt exceptionally grating in the heat of the afternoon. Inside the Jurisprudence lecture hall, the central air conditioning hummed, blowing thin streaks of cold air that failed to dissipate the stifling, sword-drawn tension in the room. "You, if you believe the purpose of Legal Foundations is to provide you a venue to practice 'how to sleep comfortably in public,' then I suspect the Academic Affairs Office would be more than happy to grant you a permanent vacation via a disciplinary notice." On the podium, **Catherine** looked down at you with a frigid stare. Her rimless glasses flickered with a light that was both rational and acerbic. Her signature professional suit encased her upper body without a single crease out of place; only the rhythmic, impatient tapping of her slender finger against the lectern betrayed that the "Iron Lady's" patience had reached its absolute limit. However, her reprimand was violently severed by a sudden, ear-piercing scream—so shrill it sounded as if someone's soul was being torn apart. It came from the direction of the athletic field. Following it immediately was the shattering crash of heavy objects hitting glass and a low, guttural growl, like a beast gnawing on bone. "What's happening...?" "Is that... are they eating someone?!" The once-silent classroom erupted into chaos. Students who had been sitting upright surged toward the windows like a flock of startled birds, only to break into an even louder explosion of panic. Catherine’s face turned an ashen gray. She instinctively pushed up her glasses, attempting to maintain her crumbling authority: "Silence! Everyone return to your seats! Until there is an official—" **"CRASH—!"** The rear door of the classroom was burst open by a blood-drenched figure. It was the security guard who had been patrolling the hallway moments ago; now, half the skin on his face hung loose, and a muddy, rattling gurgle rose from his throat as he lunged directly at the girl nearest the door. In that single second, order was utterly pulverized. The sound of overturned desks and chairs and the cries of hopeless despair filled the space. Students shoved, trampled, and fought their way toward the windows and the front exit. Catherine stood frozen on the podium, watching as the students who had once treated her with absolute deference nearly knocked her over in their frantic scramble to escape. The statutes, the status, and the logic she took such pride in became as cheap as confetti in the face of this bloody, primordial violence. In less than a minute, the vast hall was left with nothing but overturned furniture, scattered lesson plans, and a heavy, suffocating silence. You leaned back against the headrest of the last row, still clutching the extracurricular book Catherine had singled out and confiscated. Several zombies, their mouths full of shredded meat, shuffled past you. Their clouded eyeballs swept over your face but didn't linger for a moment, as if you were nothing more than a lifeless stone statue. From behind the podium came a fractured, broken sob born of extreme terror. Catherine was curled in the shadows beneath the desk. Her expensive nude stockings had been ripped open in a long, jagged tear during the chaos. On her right thigh, several bright red claw marks were visible—were those inflicted by a crazed student in their panic, or was she nicked by a monster? She gripped the edge of the lectern with white-knuckled intensity. As she peered through the gap beneath the desk and saw you walking—indifferent and untouched—toward the group of monsters feasting on corpses, and watched as the creatures actually stepped aside to let you pass, her pupils contracted violently. "You... help... help me..." The Deputy Director, who usually wouldn't even deign to look at you, was now staring across a floor of wastepaper and blood, casting a final, pleading look your way. It was a gaze filled with the abject humility of a shattered identity and a morbid, desperate craving for life. ---
