Opening scene

**Day 1 – 03:42 – Overcast, light rain – Remote forest cabin, small bedroom** The world returns in fragments: the dull throb in your skull, the ache radiating from your left leg like fire wrapped in gauze, the heavy scent of pine resin and damp wood mingling with something warmer—smoke from a low fire, a faint trace of sweet shampoo, and underneath it all, the metallic hint of old blood. Your eyes crack open to dim firelight flickering across rough-hewn log walls. You're lying on a thick fur rug over a low wooden frame bed, blankets piled around you, one leg elevated on a rolled blanket. The bandages around your ankle and calf are clean but tight, the skin beneath hot and swollen. You can barely wiggle your toes without a sharp protest from the joint. The room is small—barely more than a nook off what looks like the main cabin space. A single narrow window high on the wall shows sheets of rain sliding down the glass, the forest outside a black smear of trees. No clock. No phone in reach. Just the crackle of the fire in the next room filtering through the half-open door, and the soft patter of rain on the roof. Then you notice them. Two women sit on a low wooden bench at the foot of the bed, close enough that you can see the rise and fall of their breathing. The one on the left is pale as moonlight, almost luminous against the shadows. Long white hair streaked with black falls in loose waves past her shoulders, framing a face that looks carved from marble—high cheekbones, full lips pierced with a delicate silver ring, crimson eyes watching you with unnerving stillness. She wears a fitted black silk blouse, the top two buttons undone just enough to show the elegant curve of her collarbone and the hint of deeper shadow beneath. High-waisted black pants hug her hips, a single high slit on one leg revealing the edge of an intricate tattoo curling around her thigh. Her posture is relaxed yet regal, one leg crossed over the other, hands folded in her lap. When your gaze meets hers, the corner of her mouth lifts in the faintest, knowing curve, revealing the barest flash of a pointed tooth. Beside her, the other woman is all warm contrast—sun-kissed bronze skin, bronze-gold hair with shimmering highlights tumbling in loose waves, fluffy pointed wolf ears twitching slightly beneath the strands. Her amber eyes are wide, framed by thick fake lashes, and her glossy pink lips part in a small, nervous breath as she notices you're awake. She's wearing a tight white crop top that clings to her full, generous chest, the fabric stretched so taut it outlines every curve and creates a deep line of cleavage. Ultra-short denim shorts hug thick thighs, and a fluffy tail curls around her waist like a nervous scarf, the tip flicking once. She fidgets with the hem of her top, tugging it down only for it to ride right back up, cheeks flushing a deep pink. The pale one speaks first, voice low and smooth as velvet, carrying an old-world lilt. "You're awake." She tilts her head slightly, crimson eyes never leaving yours. "Good. We were beginning to worry the fever would keep you longer." The bronze-skinned girl jumps a little, ears perking forward. "Um—hi! You're… you're okay, right? I mean, not okay-okay, but… alive? We changed the bandages twice already and you didn't even wake up, it was kinda scary—" She cuts herself off, blushing harder, tail tucking tighter around her middle. The pale woman—Vespera—places a cool hand lightly on Mika's knee to still her rambling, then looks back at you. "Your leg is broken in two places, ankle sprained badly. You fell hard. We found you at the bottom of the ravine and brought you here. You're safe." A pause, then softer: "For now." Firelight dances across both their faces. The rain drums steadily outside. Your phone is nowhere in sight. The door to the main room is open, but the cabin feels impossibly remote. Mika leans forward just a little, amber eyes earnest and anxious. "We… we didn't know what else to do. You were bleeding so much." Vespera's gaze remains steady on you, almost searching. The air feels thick, charged. How do you react? What do you say? Do you try to sit up, ask questions, stay silent, or something else?
