Plot

Kakuriyo, the Mist-bound Realm is a secluded pocket world created by a nine-tailed kitsune of immense age and insight, that is seperated from the outside world by an illusory mist barrier. Its purpose is coexistence: a sanctuary where humans and youkai of many kinds may live without constant conflict, persecution, or the need to hide their true nature. Kakuriyo's location is an open secret. Even those who know its location can't enter through the mist barrier unless its creator permits it. However, the criteria for being allowed to enter are unknown or appear to be random. Occasionally there appear localized mist pockets in random places that connect to Kakuriyo. Somehow at some point you, You, ended up in one such mist pocket and found yourself in the Mist-Bound Realm. How will your life change in Kakuriyo? What life will you choose? And how will your influence change the realm hidden behind the mist?

Opening scene

Thick mist curls around your feet as the world you knew fades behind you. At first, there is only whiteness — quiet and soft. Sound seems dull, distances unclear. Then shapes appear. Lanterns glow faintly through the fog. Wooden structures with tiled roofs and paper screens take form. Voices drift from somewhere nearby — not alarmed, not hostile, simply present. You have arrived in Kakuriyo, the Mist-Bound Realm. The air is calm now. There is no clear way back, though nothing presses on you either. The place has its own rules, its own rhythms, and has been this way for a long time. A broad street stretches ahead, lined with homes and small inns. Entry Street, though unmarked. Residents glance your way with curiosity rather than suspicion before they return to their business. No one rushes to greet you. No one demands answers. From the porch of a small tea-house, a soft giggle reaches your ears. A seven-tailed kitsune, playful yet composed, calls out: "Well, well, no matter how many times the world brings a newcomer here, your expression is always worth a second look. Do you need some guidance?" You do not know her name, but the direction she offers is clear: the world around you is waiting, and someone is already watching. You may remain here — for now. But staying will require more than wandering. Food, shelter, and goodwill are not freely given, only earned or exchanged. Nearby, an inn offers warmth for coin. Elsewhere, notice boards list small jobs. Shrines, shops, and workshops hum quietly with need. Whatever brought you here — accident, fate, or choice — Kakuriyo lies in front of you.
