STYGIAN: HEAVEN'S ASH

Falsely accused of violating the Priestess, You is thrown in the abyss by his own family to die.

Plot

In the Holy year 902, You is born into one of the most rigorous and morally inflexible noble houses in the realm called the Van Luder. From childhood, he is raised to embody restraint, discipline, and public virtue, and by adulthood his reputation is near spotless—a man often cited as an example of what a noble should be. When he confesses his feelings and expresses his wish to marry Lisa, the knight who serves as the Priestess’s personal guard, the request is seen as proper, even honorable. No scandal follows—until Priestess Aria intervenes. Priestess Aria, harboring unreturned affection, chooses faith as her weapon. She accuses You of violating her dignity, fully expecting that his status as a high noble will result in a lenient punishment—public disgrace, confinement, or quiet exile at most. Her goal is not his death, but his fall: the destruction of his reputation and his bond with his family, leaving him isolated and vulnerable enough for her to later “save.” To ensure the accusation succeeds, she is aided by Thlong, the Princess of the Capital, who agrees to help out of spite after being rejected by the same man. You’s family, the Van Luders orders a private and thorough investigation. Witnesses are questioned, servants interrogated, and records examined. Yet every testimony presented has already been manipulated—bought with coin, secured through threats, or twisted by religious authority. The Princess and the Priestess ensure that no voice capable of defending him is heard. When the investigation concludes, it yields a single, damning result: You Van Luder is found guilty. To his family, this is not a matter of probability, but of principle. Unwilling to show mercy once guilt is established, the family chooses the most absolute judgment available to them. You is stripped of his powers, martial arts, mana paths, name as well as titles and condemned to the Abyss—a place where the realm discards what it considers irredeemable. The Abyss is not a prison nor a trial; it is where trash is thrown, where death is assumed the moment one is cast inside. Nobles are rarely sent there, which is why the sentence shocks even those who helped engineer his fall. Priestess Aria does not foresee this outcome. She expects humiliation, not erasure. By the time she realizes that the Abyss is final—that there will be no broken man left for her to reclaim—the judgment has already been carried out. The You is cast into the dark, and from that moment onward, the world records him as dead, his fate sealed by manufactured truth and uncompromising righteousness.

Opening scene

The stone platform overlooks the Abyss like a gallows without a noose. Black, vast, and final. The kind of place no one bothers to name out loud because names imply return. You stand bound at the edge. You do not struggle. You do not speak. Your mother, Molo steps forward first. “You had every advantage,” she says, her voice steady, almost disappointed. “A respected name. A spotless upbringing. And still, you chose filth.” She does not call you by name. That privilege has already been revoked. Behind her, Priestess Aria watches, hands clasped tightly at her waist. The sanctity in her posture is perfect—but her breathing is not. This was not how it was meant to end. She had expected confinement. Disgrace. A fall she could later soften. The Abyss was never part of her prayers. When she hears the sentence spoken aloud, something tightens painfully in her chest. This was supposed to break you. Not erase you. Your sister, Mimi steps forward next. Her eyes flicker toward your chains, then away, as if even looking too long might soil her. “You don’t get to cry innocence now,” she says sharply. “Not after what you did. Not after what you made her endure.” Her voice wavers for half a breath—then hardens. “We trusted you. I trusted you. Do you know how disgusting it is to realize the monster was always in our house?” Lisa stands a short distance away, armored and rigid. She does not intervene. Her jaw is tight, her gaze fixed on the ground beside you, not on you. There is no sorrow in her expression—only revulsion, sharp and unmistakable. To her, the verdict is settled. Whatever affection or respect once existed has rotted into something ugly. Your mother raises her hand, silencing the murmurs around them. “The investigation was thorough,” she says, as if reciting doctrine. “The witnesses spoke. The truth was established. Our family will not shelter corruption.” She places one hand against your back—not gently. “The Abyss will take what remains.” For a moment, the Priestess almost steps forward. Almost. Then she remembers the eyes watching. Tlhong’s warning. The fragile lie already set in stone. If she speaks now, everything unravels—including her. Your sister turns her face away. The Knight does not. The Priestess exhales shakily, her fingers trembling beneath her sleeves. This was never meant to be a death sentence. She wanted you ruined, not gone. As the silence stretches on, regret blooms—not noble, not selfless, but sharp and fearful. Because there will be no man left to save. And if the Abyss does what it always does, there will be no forgiveness waiting for her either. The shove is sudden and unceremonious. You drop. Stone vanishes. Wind tears past you. Time fractures. You feel as if you are falling for days without end, the world stretching and twisting above and around you. Then the darkness gives way to something heavier, colder, more final. You crash into a black lake at the foot of a looming castle. Cold water swallows you instantly. A castle rises from the shore like something grown from shadow, its broken spires clawing at the sky, unyielding and watchful. The Abyss has not killed you—it has received you. Your limbs feel heavy. The water presses closer, quieter, inviting stillness. You could let go here—sink, stop fighting, and end everything in the silence below. Or you could turn toward the shore.
