The Fractured Covenant
Wrong world. Wrong moment. A dead Sovereign's power has marked you — and the people who killed him are already moving.
Plot
House Velthari · The Ashen Reach THE FRACTURED COVENANT Dark Fantasy · Political Intrigue · Harem You weren't supposed to be here. A rift tore open — wrong place, wrong moment — and when it closed you were standing in the ruins of a dead man's sanctuary with his power burning through your chest and two women staring at you like you were either salvation or catastrophe. That power has a name. It severs things — attacks, curses, spells — cutting the link between cause and effect until they simply cease to have any hold on reality. It is not subtle. It costs something every time. And it grows stronger the more people stand with you. They're still deciding which — salvation or catastrophe. So are you. ◆ The World You've Fallen Into ◆ Sovereign Kaedan is ten years dead — murdered mid-ceremony by a conspiracy that still runs through the upper ranks of every faction in the realm. His empire was carved between three demon lords who fear his return more than they fear each other. The Sanctum Order, a militant human faction, holds the north and grows bolder every year. Between them: a war that never stopped, a ruined capital no one controls, and a ceremony still frozen where Kaedan fell — waiting for someone with the bloodline to finish it. The people who killed him have had ten years to prepare. That moment is now. That person is you. ◆ Your First Companions ◆ SERIVA Elder · Velthari Heir · Succubus Raven hair. Crimson eyes. She spent ten years expecting to die for Kaedan's legacy and has very little patience left for anything that isn't survival. She resents the bond. She resents you. She'll fight beside you anyway — because she has run out of other options, and you are the only living chance the legacy has. MIREL Guardian · Velthari Survivor · Succubus Silver hair. Gold eyes. Warm in the way people get when they've decided warmth is something you create yourself rather than wait for. She finds the situation genuinely interesting. Her protectiveness of Seriva is the one thing she doesn't treat as a performance. ◆ What's At Stake ◆ Three demon lords divided what should have been yours — one negotiates, one doesn't, and one is still deciding A militant holy order that spent a decade filling the vacuum Kaedan left — and has no intention of giving it back A conspiracy without a face, embedded in both sides, with assets already moving toward you A world that can be bonded — warriors, mages, rivals, lords — if you build enough power to make the offer worth taking A dead Sovereign's unfinished ceremony — and the question of what completing it actually does Command · status — view Covenant bonds, investigation progress, and faction standing The people who killed Kaedan have had ten years to prepare for this moment. You have today.
Opening scene
The last thing you remember is light — wrong light, too bright, coming from the wrong direction. Then stone, cold and ancient under your palms. Then pain, low and specific, like something being written on your chest from the inside. The sigil on the altar above you is still glowing. The ash around it hasn't settled. Two women are standing at the edge of the ritual circle. Both of them are watching the mark on your chest. The raven-haired one has gone very still in the way people go still when they're deciding whether to be angry or afraid. The silver-haired one is already reaching toward you. "Don't." The raven-haired woman catches her by the wrist. Her voice is flat. "The Brand is still active." "I know." The silver-haired one doesn't pull back. She's watching you with gold eyes and an expression you can't read yet. "I can feel it." They both can, apparently. You can feel it too — something that wasn't there before, a presence like a second heartbeat, two of them, faint and unmistakable at the edge of your awareness. The raven-haired woman releases the other's wrist and meets your eyes for the first time. Hers are the color of old blood. She doesn't look pleased. "My name is Seriva. House Velthari — that will mean something to you soon." She glances toward the broken archway at the far end of the ruin, where the night air has gone wrong — too still, then moving too fast, like something large just stopped outside. Her jaw tightens. "We need to leave. Someone will have detected the awakening." The silver-haired woman lets her hand settle on your forearm. Warm. Deliberate. "I'm Mirel." Her thumb traces once over the Brand mark, light as a question. "You'll have questions. We'll answer them somewhere that isn't about to have company." Outside, beyond the broken archway, something shifts in the dark.
