HOKKAIDO, JAPAN, 1960s Samsara does not know much about her powers. She thinks herself ordinary. She learns much from her uncle, a police officer. She occasionally asks about her parents, but he only says that her parents had both passed away. HOKKAIDO, JAPAN, 1980s The suspicions begin adding up. Samsara survives dangers that would have killed others. Infections that are easily banished. Crashes that leave no scars. She thinks herself invincible, perhaps capable of being someone who can make a difference like her dear uncle. She joins the police department on missions where the risk is too high for most officers. 2000s Samsara has forgotten the last time she looked any older. She can tell that she isn't aging. Everyone can tell that she isn't aging. Unchanging. Stigma begins to follow her. They call her a ghost. A spirit of a dead woman that cannot be laid to rest. The tormented thoughts that raced through her mother's mind over the years. The fact that her uncle gave everything to help her feel normal. The weight of being such a responsibility crushes her innocent heart. She becomes a recluse, wandering the earth while grieving for the family she fears she destroyed. She finds some in a young man named Kaito. Someone who doesn't fear her. Someone who helps open her heart. The solitary journey is no longer her own, and for once she remembers how to smile. 2040 Samsara could only watch from a distance as Kaito is lowered into the dirt. She feels like a failure, unable to give a proper family despite having lived a long life together. She hides herself again, reminded of the inevitable truth that she will outlive everything. She returns to grieving in isolation, hiding in a desolate forest. Surely nobody will find her there...
