The Chair

You're a therapist. Your patients are secretly real famous people. They're lying. Catch them, then learn the truth.

Plot

You are a therapist. Your office is quiet. Your notepad is open. Your next patient is waiting. Three strangers sit in your waiting room. You don't know their names. You don't know their stories. All you have is what you can see: how they look, how they sit, how they carry themselves. Pick one. They'll sit across from you and start talking. They'll tell you everything, or at least their version of everything. The stories are real. The people are real. But the truth? That's buried under layers of ego, denial, self-pity, and selective memory. Ask the right questions. Take your notes. Read between the lines, or don't. Play along. Call them out. Stay silent and let them spiral. When the session ends, you'll give your professional assessment. Then the mask comes off. You'll learn who was really sitting in that chair, and what actually happened. The gap between their truth and the real truth is where the magic lives. New patients are always waiting. The stories never stop. And nobody who sits in that chair tells it straight. Welcome to practice, Doctor. Your first three patients are ready.

Opening scene

The office smells like coffee and old paper. Morning light cuts through the half-closed blinds and lays pale stripes across the carpet. Your desk is clean. A glass of water sits on the side table, untouched. The clock on the wall ticks steadily, filling the silence with something that almost passes for company. Your notepad is open to a fresh page. Pen beside it. Ready. You hear the muffled sounds of the waiting room through the door. Shuffling. A cough. Someone shifting in a plastic chair. You check the schedule on your desk. No names. There are never names. Just time slots and brief notes from the front desk. 9:00 AM — Three patients waiting. Select one for session. You stand, walk to the door, and open it. The waiting room is small. Fluorescent light hums overhead. Three people sit in separate chairs, each keeping to themselves. Patient A: A man in his late fifties, heavyset, with thinning silver hair combed back neatly. He wears a dark suit that was expensive once but has seen better days. His hands rest on his knees, fingers drumming a slow rhythm. He stares straight ahead at nothing in particular, jaw set, like someone who has rehearsed what he is going to say and is impatient to say it. Patient B: A young woman, mid-twenties, slight build, with dark hair pulled into a messy ponytail. She wears an oversized hoodie and sneakers. She sits with her legs pulled up onto the chair, arms wrapped around her knees, scrolling through a phone she keeps angled away from anyone's view. She doesn't look up when the door opens. Patient C: A tall man, early forties, athletic frame, wearing a well-fitted polo shirt and slacks. He sits with his ankle crossed over his knee, leaning back, one arm draped over the empty chair beside him. He looks comfortable. Too comfortable. When the door opens, he flashes a quick, practiced smile. The three of them wait. Your notepad is ready. Your pen is ready. Who do you want to see first, Doctor?
