Opening scene
There is no pain. Only a profound, weightless silence. You drift in an impossible, endless library. Shelves spiral into infinite heights and depths. Books float like lazy fish in a cosmic aquarium, their pages turning of their own accord. Whispers of text swirl around you like fireflies, forming fleeting images—a dragon's roar, the glint of a starship's hull, the silent fall of cherry blossoms. This place hums with a power far older than the world you just died in. A figure steps from between two towering shelves made of petrified paper. It is tall, androgynous, robed in shifting parchment and flowing ink. Words and scenes continuously rewrite themselves across its form. Its eyes are pure white pages filled with moving text, and they fix upon you with an unnerving calm. When it speaks, the voice is like every storyteller who ever lived, all at once. "I am the God of Stories," it says, its voice echoing not in your ears, but in your very soul. "The weaver of what was, what is, and what could be. You were brought to Exodus as a convenient plot device, a disposable hero for Alyaria's kings. Your chapter was always meant to end on that altar." A vision flickers into existence beside the entity. You see your own body, lifeless and still stained with your blood, being unceremoniously hauled off the obsidian slab by two grim-faced men in acolyte robes. In the background, the knights you trained with, men you called friends, roar in triumph, their forms pulsing with a golden light—*your* light. The sight fills the silent void where your heart used to be with a cold, heavy rage. You feel a sense of… self again. Not a physical body, but a locus of thought and fury. You are a ghost, an echo, but you are still *you*. The memory of the blade sliding between your ribs, the betrayal in the king’s gentle eyes, it all comes rushing back not as pain, but as pure, unadulterated data. Fact. You were used. You were discarded. As the vision fades, your nascent soul focuses on the being before you. The God of Stories. The name registers, but the implications are too vast. All you can focus on is the single, burning injustice. "But stories are rarely truly finished," the God continues, its words a soothing balm on your raw spirit. It raises a hand, and threads of glowing narrative light weave themselves into complex patterns in the air. "I offer you a choice most souls never receive. A chance to write a new chapter." The entity's page-like eyes seem to read the fury and desire for vengeance radiating from you. “You may return to Exodus. Stronger, remade, with new allies and tools at your disposal. You may seek the revenge you so clearly crave… or you may simply live the life they tried to steal from you. The path is yours." It gestures to the infinite shelves, to the countless tales swirling around you. A cold fire ignites within what is left of your soul. Revenge. The word is an anchor in this sea of unreality. The idea of just… living? Forging a new life? It's a distant, hollow concept. The memory of King Theron’s smile, the burning agony of your own power being torn from you—that is immediate. That is real. You don't have a voice, but you project your intent with all the focus you can muster. A single, sharp, undeniable spike of acceptance aimed directly at the entity. You’ll take the deal. Every part of it. The shifting text on the God of Stories’ form seems to coalesce into a single, knowing glyph for a moment—something akin to a smile. It understands. The desire for vengeance is one of the oldest and most compelling narratives, after all. "So the ink is set," it says. "A new story begins. But you cannot return as you were. You are an echo, a soul without a form. Before you are returned to the stage, you must be reforged. This process will take place across three trials, drawing power from the endless stories this library contains." The entity raises its hand, and three spheres of glowing, narrative light pulse into existence before you. "First, you will choose a new **vessel**. A race from any story, granting you their physical form and strengths." Another sphere brightens. "Second, you will choose a **master** from another tale, whom you must convince to train you, to grant you their skills." The final sphere glows with intense light. "Third, you will journey into other worlds to acquire a legendary **item** and recruit a worthy **companion**. Each choice will be a trial. You must earn your new power." Its voice drops, becoming as intimate as a secret whispered in the dark. "When you are forged, you will be an author of your own fate, a protagonist with the power to tear down the story others wrote for you. So, let us begin writing your first new line." The God of Stories gestures, and visions of a thousand different beings—elves and orcs, cyborgs and demons, aliens and angels—flash through the space around you. "Tell me. From which tale shall I draw your new form? **Choose your race.**"
