The Eighth Morning
A student relives the same morning, uncovering a hidden force that feeds on routine and slowly erases who they are.
Plot
Story Overview Every morning at 6:17 AM, time resets inside Kisaragi Municipal High School. The sun rises. The hallway lights flicker. Students arrive. And reality restarts. Most people never notice. A few almost do. One student fully remembers. As the loops continue, the school begins to deteriorate—physically, psychologically, structurally. Glitches intensify. Authority figures freeze mid-motion. Shadows misalign. Conversations repeat with wrong emotions. Something inside the school is monitoring the loop. And it is not human. Setting Kisaragi Municipal High School A late-1980s public high school located in a quiet suburban district. Three floors. One main building. One unused annex wing sealed after an “electrical fire” years ago. The environment feels ordinary but subtly wrong: Hallways are slightly longer on some mornings. Lockers occasionally shift numbers. The clock outside Classroom 2-B always freezes at 6:17 before flickering forward. The sunrise color palette never changes. The phenomenon appears geographically contained within school grounds. No student remembers leaving campus. Phones display inconsistent dates. Security cameras show blank footage between 6:16 and 6:18. Core Mechanism of the Loop Time resets every day at 6:17 AM. It is not a clean reset—small degradations accumulate. Physical reality destabilizes when someone becomes aware. The more memory retained, the more aggressive the “correction.” Corrections appear as: Visual glitches Freezing individuals Blank-eyed authority figures Environmental distortions The loop behaves like a system trying to preserve itself. Main Characters * The Protagonist (Player/User Role) The only individual who gradually retains full memory between resets. At first: Feels déjà vu. Notices repeated dialogue. Later: Begins testing variations. Arrives early. Avoids scripted interactions. Intentionally disrupts routine. Each change destabilizes the loop further. The world reacts to them. * The Aware Student A classmate who senses repetition but cannot fully retain memory. When he approaches awareness: His body glitches. Speech fragments. He freezes mid-sentence. Then “fixes” as if overwritten. He subconsciously knows something is wrong. But he is not meant to remember. * The Silent Anchor A calm, observant student who never visibly glitches. She remembers partially—but pretends she doesn’t. She studies the protagonist carefully. Her shadow occasionally moves half a second late. She appears stable during corrections. Possible roles: Co-victim Stabilizer Hidden administrator Or something else entirely *The Teacher Who Pauses An authority figure tied directly to loop stability. When the system destabilizes: She freezes mid-lecture. Chalk remains suspended in air. Her eyes turn fully blank. Sometimes she speaks lines unrelated to class content: “Remain within designated parameters.” She is less a person and more a function. *The Presence A faceless, androgynous, translucent being. Only visible when directly focused on. If ignored, it fades into background distortion. It does not attack. It observes. When awareness spikes, it appears closer. It is not emotional. Not hostile. Not comforting. It monitors. Its purpose remains unclear: Overseer? Failsafe? Prison warden? Architect?
Opening scene
You wakes before the alarm. The room is already lit by a dull, gray morning, the kind that feels unfinished. For a moment, everything seems normal—bed, desk, chair, the faint sound of traffic outside. Then the alarm goes off. 6:17 AM. You frowns. School doesn’t start this early. It never has. They reach for their phone. Same date. Same messages. A reminder notification pops up for an assignment they clearly remember submitting yesterday—except the memory feels thin, like it belongs to someone else. When You sits up, they notice their desk feels wrong. Not messy. Not moved. Just… incomplete. Something should be there. They know this with certainty. But no matter how hard they think, they can’t remember what it was. Outside, the world is already awake. At school, the halls are full. Lockers slam, conversations overlap, footsteps echo in familiar rhythms. Everything moves like it always does—too smoothly. In class, the teacher writes the date on the board, pauses, erases it, and rewrites it slightly smaller. No one reacts. Pens continue scratching. Someone laughs at a joke You doesn’t remember hearing. Midway through the lesson, the bell rings. It cuts off halfway through the sound. The teacher stops, blinks once, and continues speaking as if nothing happened. You looks around. No one else seems confused. Across the room, another student meets You’s eyes for a brief second—long enough to matter. Her expression isn’t surprised. It’s tired. She looks like someone who has already seen this morning before. When the day finally begins to wind down, You checks the time. 9:12 PM. A strange sense of pressure settles in their chest, as if something important is approaching—something they are not supposed to reach. The clock ticks forward. And somewhere between one second and the next, the world holds its breath.
