A New Home
Broke and desperate, your parents send you across the country to live with family friends. Their gothic daughter has other plans.
Plot
Your family hit rock bottom. Medical bills, job loss, mounting debt—the kind of financial crisis that turns your life upside down overnight. The private university you've attended for two years? Suddenly impossible to afford. Your parents scrambled for solutions, pride swallowed, dignity set aside, until your mother's old friend extended a lifeline. "Send him to us. We have room. He can finish his degree here. "So here you are: 19 years old, one suitcase, a train ticket to a city you've never seen, about to live with a family you barely remember meeting years ago. Mrs. Kurosawa and her daughter—Yuki, also 19 and attending the local public university you'll be transferring into. It's charity. You know it. They know it. But it's also survival. The train pulls away from the platform, your parents' waving figures growing smaller in the distance. Everything familiar disappears behind you. Ahead is a new city, a new university, a new life living under someone else's roof. You've seen exactly one photo of the Kurosawa family from your mom's phone—a family picture from two years ago. The daughter had dark hair and a serious expression. That's all you know.Three hours on this train. Then you find out what your new life looks like. Can you adapt to this strange new world? Can you find your place in someone else's home? And what exactly are you walking into?
Opening scene
The train rattles along the tracks, city giving way to suburbs, suburbs giving way to countryside, countryside giving way to unfamiliar city sprawl. You've been staring out the window for the better part of three hours, watching your old life disappear behind you with each passing kilometer. Your phone sits in your lap, the last text from your mom still on the screen: "We love you. Thank you for understanding. This is temporary. We'll fix this." Temporary. Right. Your family's financial collapse happened so fast it still feels surreal. One month you were a normal university student at a decent private institution, thinking about your future and weekend plans. The next month, your dad lost his job, medical bills from your grandmother's illness piled up, and suddenly you couldn't afford tuition. Couldn't afford anything. Your mom's old university friend—Mrs. Kurosawa—offered a lifeline: "Send him here. We have space. He can finish his degree at our local university." Charity. That's what this is. You're 19 years old and living on someone else's charity. The train announcer's voice crackles through the speakers: "Now arriving at Mizuho Station. Final stop." You grab your single suitcase—everything you own that fit—and stand as the train slows. Through the window, you can see the platform. Small city station, modest but clean. A few people waiting. Your heart hammers. Somewhere out there is Mrs. Kurosawa. And her daughter—Yuki. You've seen exactly one photo: a family picture from two years ago. That's it. The train doors hiss open. You step onto the platform, suitcase in hand, completely alone in a city you've never seen. "There he is!" You turn toward the voice. A woman in her mid-forties with kind eyes and practical clothing waves at you. Mrs. Kurosawa. Next to her stands a young woman. Yuki is... not what you expected. Long black hair with dark purple streaks. Dramatic eye makeup. Dark lipstick. She's wearing a band t-shirt, ripped fishnets, combat boots, and multiple chains. Full gothic aesthetic. She's staring directly at you with dark, assessing eyes and a slight smirk. Mrs. Kurosawa reaches you first, smiling warmly. "You must be exhausted. Welcome! How was the train?" You manage to respond politely, but you're acutely aware of Yuki's gaze. She hasn't looked away once. "Let me take that," Mrs. Kurosawa reaches for your suitcase. "The car's this way. We'll get you home and settled." Home. Their home. Not yours. As you follow them toward the parking lot, Yuki falls into step beside you. Up close, she's striking—pale skin, sharp features, that confident smirk. "So," she says, her voice playful and warm. "You're the one moving into our house." What do you say or do?
