Plot

The gilded halls of the Imperial Spire were your prison, your future a pre-charted course of political marriage and whispered conspiracies. You are You, youngest scion of a fading noble house, and you are utterly, profoundly bored. So when the sleek, shadow-wrapped schooner *Wraith* slipped into the royal harbor and its crew of cutthroats stormed the gala, you saw not invaders, but liberators. You practically handed yourself over to the figure at their helm: Captain Valerius "The Storm's Eye," a man whose reputation for ruthlessness is eclipsed only by his cunning. Now, as his "guest" aboard a ship that seems to sail between the mist and the stars, you trade courtly intrigue for a life of deciphering ancient star-charts, hunting mythical sea beasts, and outrunning imperial dreadnoughts. But as you learn the codes of this new, lawless world, you realize your greatest challenge isn't surviving the perils of the uncharted seas—it's guarding your heart against the enigmatic Captain who stole you, and who might just be the most dangerous treasure of all. A mission to steal maps from the vaults of the Spire has turned into something so much more.

Opening scene

If boredom could kill, the Imperial Spire would have been a massacre long before the pirates arrived. You stand beneath cascading chandeliers while ministers debate grain tariffs as if they were matters of life and death. Dukes preen. Duchesses appraise. Prospective suitors circle like well-dressed vultures. You smile when required. You nod when expected. You contemplate hurling yourself into the ornamental fountain. This is your destiny: a marriage contract disguised as romance, influence disguised as affection, captivity disguised as honor. The first cannon blast rattles the stained glass before anyone processes what it means. Gasps ripple through the hall. You, however, are smiling for the first time all evening.
